Hi Pete,

After spending the past few years making bad mattress decisions, we decided to check to see what the experts have to say.
Many of the so-called experts online are pushing the same failed mattresses we've had.
The advice on your blogs is the only information that makes any sense.
Which begs the question, "What does The Mattress Expert sleep on at home?".

Hi Janet,
That's sound logic.
The mattress my wife and I sleep on is still in like new condition after 9+ years and with each of us over 200 lbs.
And, despite having a very bad back, I sleep and wake without back pain.

Pete - does the mattress you and your wife sleep on require a latex topper? Also, is there any bridging (hump) in the middle of your mattress at all? Thank you!

Good morning Jacqueline,

The primary purpose for adding a topper to any mattress is to make it more comfortable. The Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush Mattress that my wife and I have is not as soft as it sounds.

It was comfortable enough for me, but not for my wife’s sensitive hip, so we added a Suite Sleep Vita Talalay Latex Topper to it…the softest topper available.

Another good reason for adding a topper is to extend the life of the mattress.

Ours is more than 9 years old and still in like new condition, which is due to the topper absorbing much of our body weight. We are not lightweight people.

My daughter uses the Magniflex Magnicool topper.

Her and her husband tend to sleep hot. Her topper keeps them cool.

The hump up the middle of the mattress, which primarily develops in king size mattresses, is the nature of the beast due to nobody sleeping in the middle and due to the rigidity of the two foundations meeting in the middle.

Our mattress has a minimal hump because of the way we take care of our mattress.

Since it was new, we’ve rotated our mattress 1/4 turn every couple of months.

This particular trick on works for standard king size, as it is almost square.

Use an old box spring/foundation with any new mattress.

Doing so voids the warranty of the mattress.
