Hi Pete, I contacted you many years ago. I had a mattress that was too firm and was looking for a more comfortable mattress. You talked me into making that mattress more comfortable by adding a soft latex mattress topper, instead of buying another new mattress. I ended up with 3” Talalay Latex. I can’t thank you enough for steering me right. Here it is, 10 years later, and I’m back to get a new latex topper. Not only did the topper make my too firm mattress comfortable, but that mattress is still like new…just what you said would happen. I’ve actually needed a new topper since late last year. I shopped your website, but then found what seemed to be the same thing online for half the price. So, I’m sorry to say I bought it. Here it is, barely 6 months later, and it has deep body impressions and it’s not as comfortable as it was at first. The one I bought for you remained comfortable for many years. The Talalay is slightly softer than the Dunlop. What went wrong with that last one?…Latex made in China. China processes latex with clay as a filler. Clay is a natural substance, so they’re sold an all natural, even organic latex. The clay makes it a lot cheaper to produce and why it was such a short time. It costs about half, but lasts only a fraction of time…a very poor value for the money. My grandfather used to tell me, “Solo il meglio”, which translates into “Only the best”. Memory foam is a temperature sensitive material that softens as it warms. Memory foam is aka: visco foam, gel foam, slow recovery foam. Sciatica starts with a pinched nerve at the base of your spine. The pain radiates around the hip and down the leg. A nerve is being pinch by the vertebrae where the discs have worn. The best way to reduce/eliminate that kind of pain is the keep the vertebrae from pinching that nerve. This is best achieved by maintaining the natural alignment of your spine. The best material to use for this is a mattress made with an individually pocketed coil Thwarting any effort on your part is when you buy a mattress upholstered with memory foam. Memory foam is the worst upholstery material ever and will cause any back problem to become worse. If you don’t have the proper support, adding a topper of any kind will end up being a total waste of money. My lower back arches in the bed, as the middle part of mattress is firmer than the top half. Before I take a leap of faith with the Natura mattress you recommend, I do have 2 more questions: 1. Hey Pete, I need help purchasing a really good mattress. I’m a really big guy (6’4” 450+). My wife is 5’4, 200. We have a Simmons Beautyrest from 2022. It’s completely broken down, and we are still paying on it. The warranty claim was denied due to soiling. We will be paying on this thing until 2025. (Ridiculous, I know.) This mattress is causing us back, hip and neck pains. The side stitching has come apart, and literally have to stuff it back into the mattress.
