Hi TME, Scrolling through the blog posts, you seem to recommend the Natura of Canada Greenspring ultra plush mattress quite a bit, and it’s in our price range. You say it’s appropriate for someone on the heavy side but not off the charts (at heaviest close to 240 lb. max, currently 230 and dieting) with an only slightly heavy partner. If so, how many years would it be expected to last before needing to be replaced? Also does it need to be rotated regularly? Thanks. Greg Hi Greg, Of all the mattresses we’ve encountered while shopping at the industry trade shows, the Natura Greenspring are the strongest, most durable mattresses we could find. My wife and I have been sleeping on their ultra plush model for close to 12 years now. I weighed 275 when we first got it, but have lost weight since then. We both weigh more than 200 lbs. today. Rotating a mattress regularly does add to the longevity, which we have done over the years we’ve had ours. Here’s a link to our Care & Maintenance manual. So yes, the Natura Greenspring Ultra Plush Mattress is my recommendation for people your size. Here’s the link to that mattress: Natura Greenspring Ultra Plush https://cc-mattress-llc.square.site/product/natura-greenspring-liberta-ultra-plush/92?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true Please let me know if you have any further questions. Dear TME,
You keep recommending that people rotate king mattresses 1/4 turn. This might work for a standard king mattress as they are almost square, but our California king is slightly longer than wide so this is not an option. It is also a mattress that you cannot turn over so when we rotate we just exchange one side for the other and top to bottom, it does very little good. Karen, Hi Karen, The 1/4 turn advice, as you pointed out, only works with the eastern king. If you have a Cal king, I'd think that not being able to to that should be rather obvious. Rotating your mattress is something you do from when your mattress is new, to ensure even wear. If you wait until body impressions become deep, it then does very little good, as you’ve discovered. The Cal king is the worst size to choose for even wear. Head to foot rotation is all you can do with any size (other than eastern king), but in the queen and full, you're sleeping close enough together as to not have a hump develop up the center. Not so in either king size. The center always stays like new. If you take care of your mattress properly, it will wear slower and retain its comfort longer.
Using a Waterproof Mattress Protector is essential for preventing moisture from seeping into the upholstery layers. Keeping your upholstery materials clean and dry will help prevent them from compressing and retaining your body’s odor. There are many mattress protectors on the market. Here’s a link to a couple of the ones that we offer on our website. They are the ones we use at home. https://www.themattressexpert.com/sleep_and_beyond_protectors_and_encasements.html#/ Free Shipping.
“Most of your weight is at one end of the mattress.” “Sleeping partners are often different weights.” These are the main reasons why your mattress will wear unevenly and become uncomfortable much too quickly, if you do not rotate/flip your mattress on a regular basis from the time it’s new. One sided mattresses are rotated. Two sided mattresses are flipped. All of this is nothing new. This procedure has always been the industry standard. Once a month for the first year, once every three months thereafter. Special notes: Two sided mattresses should be flipped, side to side and head to foot on a rotating bases for maximum results. King size mattresses often develop a “hump up the middle”. Since most people sleep farther apart on a king size mattress, the center remains like new while each side compresses under your weights. The hump up the middle is, “the nature of the beast“. Adding to this particular problem, is the foundation, which is usually reinforced up the center of the bed. There is a solution that will reduce the effects. This trick only works for a standard king size mattress. A standard king is almost square…close enough that this works. Rotate your king size mattress 1/4 turn. Thanks, Pete - TME Delivery is Always Free Online Ordering is Easy & Secure.
