Hi Pete,
We bought our Sealy Solana Beach Latex Mattress from you more than twenty years ago, and the latex has lasted, just like you said it would. It's been an awesome bed, but now the pillow top is really sinking in the middle, and it's time for another mattress. First, if we buy a new mattress from you, can we have the old Solana Beach removed as part of the white glove service? I'm fine with paying an additional charge if need be. But I really don't want to deal with the old one if possible....it's pretty heavy. Second, what is the most plush latex bed you have right now? My wife and I are both absolute side sleepers with average frames. Money is not an object for something we buy every twenty years. What do we want to buy? Thanks, David Good Morning David, Welcome Back. I’m happy to see that you’ve enjoyed your mattress for so long. There are a couple of options to explore before making a decision. There’s a possibility that your mattress has more years in. If you flip the mattress over and if you see that it’s flat and even, then you may be able to simply add a soft latex topper to the flip side. This option is far less expensive than a new mattress. If you think this option will work for you, then order a Suite Sleep 3” Soft Pure Vita Talalay Latex Topper…the softest available…shown here: https://www.themattressexpert.com/suite_sleep_latex_toppers.html#/ The plushest latex mattress that comes with white glove delivery is the Natura Twilight model…shown here. https://cc-mattress-llc.square.site/product/natura-level-2-twilight-latex-mattress/52?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true Removal of your old mattress is iffy since the covid pandemic, unless you live in California, where they have a law that demands removal. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee removal. However, that service can usually be worked out with the delivery agent when they call to schedule your delivery with you. If not, most areas have people you can call for that service. Thanks, Pete - TME Delivery is Always Free Online Ordering is Easy & Secure. Hi Pete,
We recently received a Natura of Canada Greenspring Mattress in Plush. Natura of Canada Greenspring Mattresses https://www.themattressexpert.com/natura_mattresses.html#/ You had recommended the Ultra Plush for us and that’s the mattress my wife wanted to order. I decided on the Plush model because Ultra Plush sounded like it would be too soft, even though you had assured us that it wouldn’t be. So, here I am, with an unhappy wife who is blaming me. I will say that our back pains have gone away, just as you said they would. But, we would like the mattress to be more comfortable. Which latex topper do we need to make my wife happy? She’s a side sleeper with a sore hip…and she’s sore at me! I regret not going with your original recommendation. Thanks, Alan Hi Alan, Let me recommend to you the same latex topper that we use at home. My wife is also a side sleeper with a sensitive hip. The Suite Sleep 3” Soft Pure Vita Talalay Latex Topper is the softest available. Again, it won’t be too soft. You won’t have to worry about sinking in. Pure latex doesn’t all that. You’ll feel like you’re floating. And once again, you’ll have a happy wife & happy life. Click on this link to view and place your order. I ran across your website/blog and became very interested in what advice you can offer in a mattress. My wife and I are opposite when it comes to preference on mattress firmness. I prefer as firm as can be, and she prefers a soft bed. Our current mattress is a traditional coil spring, firm. This is really helpful with my lower back issues (degenerated discs), but has caused her to not sleep well for the past couple of years due to the firmness. We are both average build. We are researching mattresses and even popped in a local store to try out some mattresses. I forget the name of the one recommended, but it was the 2nd most firm mattress they offered. Since it has the memory foam, it did not feel too firm for my wife. I noticed a comment from someone saying that memory foam made them feel hot, and caused all sorts of additional back/knee/shoulder issues. What would you recommend to my wife and me, considering the information I have provided? What do you have available for us to buy? Thanks, Gabe Hi Gabe, You don't need a new mattress. You only need to make your wife comfortable on the mattress you already own. Memory foam is THEE thing to avoid in order to make a successful purchase. Any mattress upholstered with memory foam will wear quickly, sleep hot, and off gas the toxic chemicals from which memory foam is made. Add a soft latex topper to the mattress you have and your wife will have an extraordinarily comfortable sleeping surface without sacrificing the underlying firm support that your back requires. Latex is available in a wide variety of comfort levels and qualities. We only carry the highest quality latex on the market. Cheap latex is made in China, where they add fillers that reduce the price and the longevity I recommend the Suite Sleep 3" Soft All-Natural Vita Talalay Latex Mattress Topper. After lots of thought following our phone conversation, I decided to try a Suite Sleep 2" Latex Mattress Topper on the too firm Simmons Beautyrest Mattress that I already have in the guest room. My Guests love the feel. But, it's still a bit too firm for me. I'm 5'2", 125/130 and primarily a back sleeper with rheumatoid arthritis. Which Latex topper do you think would work best for me in my master bedroom? Which thickness and firmness? Thanks, Jan Hi Jan, I suggest the Suite Sleep All Natural 3" Soft Vita Talalay Latex Topper. For a petite female, the 3" Soft Vita Talalay Latex works best. It will help relieve your arthritis pain and it's hypoallergenic. I’m glad I found a mattress expert. I’ve have had a Sealy Carrington Chase Latex Mattress for about 15 years, and I think it’s time to replace it. I love, love, love it but can’t seem to find a replacement. I had no idea there are more than one type of Reflexion Latex mattress. I read where you told someone else to flip the mattress and get a topper. The toppers you recommended seemed to cost the price of a whole mattress and I didn’t see the model C. Chase / Reflexion listed. Can you help me please? I’m on a limited income but really need to do something with my current mattress. Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Deborah Hi Deborah, At the time you bought your latex mattress, Sealy owned Bassett Furniture. The Carrington Chase label was exclusively used in Bassett stores. The latex in your mattress is 100% synthetic. Sealy owned a factory in Pennsylvania that made the synthetic latex they used. There’s nothing wrong with synthetic latex, but synthetic latex was less expensive to produce than natural latex. However, Sealy stopped producing latex when Tempurpedic bought the Sealy Co. The difference in cost between natural and synthetic latex, along with us currently being in an inflationary period accounts for the cost of the latex toppers on our website. We only carry pure, high quality products. Cheap latex can be had from retailers carrying Chinese made latex, where they add clay to the mix when processing. Clay, being a natural material, their latex is sold as all natural, never mentioning the clay. The result is latex that lasts for months instead of years. Quite often, these older latex mattresses have a dual life. The flip side remains like new, but a bit too firm. To determine if a latex topper is all you need, flip your mattress over and test it out. If you feel that the flip side is nice and level and supportive, then add a Suite Sleep 2” or 3” Soft Pure Organic Latex Topper. (3” feeling a little softer than 2”). I have a mattress that is much too firm...painfully so. I have Fibromyalgia and this mattress is just making it worse. Is there anything I can do about it? I need to find a solution asap. Thanks, Harriet Hi Harriet, There is something you can do. Adding a soft layer of something will help to relieve your pain. The worst thing you can buy is a memory foam topper, which helps for only a short time. A Suite Sleep 3" Soft Pure, Pure Talalay or Organic Latex Mattress Topper is the best material you can buy. The feel that is provides is one of "Floating". What's more, it's a long-term solution, lasting for many years. We have a mattress that is way too firm. We bought a 3" memory foam mattress topper, which felt great for about a month. Not only did it flatten out awfully fast, I was experiencing headaches. So, I got on line, which is where I found you and found out why the memory foam was so bad. Thank you for setting us straight. What's the best mattress topper? I'm guessing latex, but which one? We are not large people. Thanks, Francine Hi Francine, Latex is the best, if not made in China where they add fillers. Pure, Organic Latex is extremely comfortable and equally long lasting. Add to your mattress, the Suite Sleep 3" Soft Organic Latex Mattress Topper. We bought a Tempurpedic Coil/Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress and hate it. It'll be going back as soon as our 30 day trail is over. Can't return it until then. The store, where we bought it, will only allow an exchange for something of equal or higher value. I just got off the computer from your blog and now understand why we hate it. Unfortunately, everything that store carries is upholstered with memory foam. If I exchange it for something else, they have, I'm afraid that we will be back to square one. It looks like I'll just be wasting the extra money I'll spend to do that.' Besides the extra for the next mattress, there's also a restocking fee and delivery charge. And, this mattress was expensive. We can't just walk away from the money we've already spent. I really need so advice as to what we should do. Thanks, Nicole Hi Nicole, It appears that you're stuck between a rock and a hard place, as they say. Fortunately, there's a way around this. But first, a few unsavory facts: RESTOCKING FEE: The store can't return what you send back to the factory for credit. The restocking fee tells you that they are going to put that mattress back into stock. This means that they will sell the mattress that was in your home to someone else. The mattress you have could have, very well, been in someone else's home before you bought it. As illegal as that is, it happens all the time. THE COMFORT GUARANTEE SCAM: The comfort guarantee is designed to lull you into a false sense of security. With a comfort guarantee, you get the notion that you can't make a mistake. When dealing with a store that is a sea of mattresses upholstered with memory foam, as most store are, you can do nothing but make a mistake: TEMPURPEDIC MATTRESS PRICES: You're now experiencing what a lousy product common memory foam truly is. Are you now wondering how such a horrible product can be so expensive? Memory foam is cheap to make. The price is high for one reason. Somebody has to pay for all that advertising. What to do now: The memory foam is only on the top of that mattress. Flip your mattress over. The flip side is likely to be too firm for comfort, but the support is better. Use whatever you might have, like a comforter, to soften it. After a couple of nights, you find that you're sleeping better. If at that point you find that you want most surface comfort, add a soft latex topper. Latex is and has been the best upholstery material for the last 100 years...the antithesis of memory foam. We recommend using high quality latex, as opposed to cheap latex made in China. The Suite Sleep Pure, Organic Latex Toppers are the best quality latex on the planet. You'll want 2" or 3" Soft Latex. Shown here: https://www.themattressexpert.com/suite_sleep_latex_toppers.html#/ This trick works more often than not. It costs nothing to try. The end result will provide a superior night's sleep to anything that store has to offer. I need your help! My sister is a very sick woman. She suffers with Systemic Lupus, Diabetes, and her lower spine is deteriorated at several levels. She desperately needs a mattress but the specifics we are concerned about is as follows: Overweight - every mattress we get ends up like a hammock due to the weight Back - she needs something that is very supportive of her spine. We have an approximate budget of $1,800 - $2,000.00, queen size. Thank you so much! With warmest regards, Ellen Hi Ellen, Most mattresses hammock under any weight, due to the memory foam upholstery that you’ll find in most of the mattresses made over the last decade. An individually pocketed coil system will provide contouring support that maintains the natural alignment of the spine. This is the best you can do to relieve chronic back pain. A high coil count, made of heavy gauge double tempered steel is the best you can do for a heavy person. All natural latex is the most resilient upholstery material available. Latex provides surface comfort that doesn’t allow you to sink. The feel it provides is best described as ‘floating’. What’s more, latex will absorb much of her body weight, which extends the life of the support system in the mattress. A mattress alone that’s comfortable enough from the start, won’t long stay that way under a heavy person. So, my recommendation comes in two parts… …a firm mattress and a soft latex topper. The Wolf Tulah Luxury Plush Eurotop Mattress provides firm, contouring support. The over-all feel of this mattress is noticeably firmer than the name implies. We are pleased to offer you a higher quality mattress from Eco-Terra. This mattress provides the same support with an upgrade in upholstery. The higher quality upholstery provides greater comfort and longevity. Click on this link: Hybrid Latex Mattress | Eco Terra Mattress ecoterrabeds.com The Suite Sleep Organic Latex Topper is what you’ll add to that. The question then becomes, “which one?”. If by heavy, you mean a couple of hundred pounds, then she can get the Soft version. If she's 300 lbs. or more, then the Medium Soft is better for wear. However, Lupus can be quite painful. She may want to trade some durability for more comfort. Normally for a large person, I recommend the 2”. But, the 3” is more comfortable. And trading the Medium Soft for Soft will also add more surface comfort. A 300 lb. person on a 3” soft, may only get a few years from that topper. All in all, it’s better to be more comfortable for a shorter length of time than less comfortable for a longer period of time. But that’s a personal call, usually based on finances more than any other reason. I have a few questions. I cannot sleep on mattresses with memory foam. My hips are wide. I'm looking for an old fashioned mattress like they made before the inclusion of memory foam. Because I've had such issues with memory foam, (9 mattresses in 3 years), I'm terrified of any kind of foam. Can you explain how and why foam is used in your bedding? Why does it differ from memory foam and why it's better? Also, because I'm afraid of memory foam, I'm uncomfortable with latex. Can you explain the difference between the two? I had a pillow top mattress for 20 years. It went bad and that's how I ended up with memory foam. My budget is tight because I've lost almost 5k on bedding. I'm trying to make the right choice. Is your RV Eurotop equivalent to the pillow top I had or is it firm? To care for the RV Eurotop, I'd rotate it correct? What is the life span of the RV.? What is the benefit/difference between a two sided vs the RV.. Also, besides PayPal, do you offer any other financing? Can I, if I get the RV use the mattress on the floor for a few months before I get a box spring? Is this mattress okay on a platform bed. Please let me know, sorry for all the questions. Thank you for responding. Terri Good Morning Terri, Common Memory foam is the worst upholstery material ever invented. Proven so over it’s 20+ year history. Memory foam was specifically designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing…and not under the terms of the warranty. Memory foam is the only foam upholstery that’s temperature sensitive. As it warms from the body heat you give off, it softens…allowing you to sink into it. This sinking throws off the natural alignment of the spine, causing pain. Memory foam sleeps hot. It absorbs your body’s heat and reflecting back to you. Memory foam consists of 61 different chemicals, some of which are highly toxic. Memory foam off gasses the toxic chemicals from which it’s made. Memory foam creates a health hazard to every living being in your home. Only memory foam is a problem. The mattress you had for 20 years, prior to the last 3 years, was upholstered with polyurethane foam and maybe had some latex in it. Latex foam is a natural material, derived from the sap of the rubber tree. Latex foam was introduced about 100 years ago and has been the best of the foams, although the most expensive. (“Best” meaning most comfortable and longest lasting). Of late, cheap latex from China has become available. It’s cheap for a reason. It wears quickly because it isn’t pure latex…latex mixed with clay. Polyurethane foam was invented in the late 1960s. It has the feel of latex, not as durable not as expensive and not made of natural materials. Unlike memory foam, polyurethane foam was cured before it was used, which eliminated the chemical off gassing. Today, there is Certi-Pur Certified safe polyurethane foams that have NO Off Gassing. That is the type of polyurethane used in the Wolf Tulah Mattress. RV mattresses tend to be too thin, thus not suitable for someone with wide hips. My recommendation for proper support and comfort comes in 2 parts. The Wolf Tulah Mattress and the Suite Sleep 3” Soft Organic Latex Topper.
