I’m suffering with severe fibromyalgia pain and I dread going to bed at night. My mattress is too firm, which just makes it worse. Soft latex is an excellent place to start, as it wears well for years, even under the weight of a larger person… and for many fibromyalgia sufferers, it enough to relieve the pain. However, the words you’re using… “severe” and “cloud like feel”, would have me recommend another way to achieve your goal. The combination of a soft latex topper and an alternative down topper will get you what you want. The alternative down topper produces that “cloud like feel” you’re looking for, but doesn’t wear as well as latex. Having a soft latex topper under it will do two things… enhance the softness of the alternative down topper and help it last longer. You can’t go wrong with the aforementioned Suite Sleep Topper, but if you’re using both, as recommended, you might consider a less expensive latex topper, which isn’t quite as soft, but much different. My wife and I are an extremely overweight couple. I’m 6’2” and weigh 350 lbs. My wife is a little shorter and weighs a little less, I’m assuming. She won’t say. I seem to be in a tough spot. I’m a big guy, 6’ 250 lbs. I have a bad back with a herniated disc. I need a mattress with support on the firm side. We aren’t willing both heavy, but with the same conditions. My back has a herniated disc, but also a bulging disc and degenerative disc disease. My wife has your wife’s hip problem, which seems to be fairly common among females. Over the years, we’ve tried a number of mattresses with varying degrees of success. The last one we bought has worked so well for both of us, that we stopped experimenting. That was almost 11 years ago…and our nearly 11 year old mattress is still in great condition with no plans to replace it. The same one will work just as well for the two of you. Quite often, the most expensive doesn’t provide the longevity that makes it worth the money spent for it. My recommendation comes in 2 parts…a mattress and a topper. If you buy a mattress that’s well padded enough to satisfy your desire for a luxurious surface feel, too often it’s that surface upholstery that will wear first, and much too quickly to make it worth the money. Last year, we replaced our 15 year old Sealy Posturepedic mattress with a new one. A year later, my husband has back pain and I have hip pain. We didn’t experience any of that with our old mattress.
