First, thank you for your blog. It has certainly helped make some sense out of all of the disinformation out there. Second, my wife and I are looking to buy our first new mattress and could use your guidance. We need a high quality queen mattress and foundation and are comfortable spending something in the $2000 range. We are both relatively young, so no special considerations or specific problems, but we would like a decent amount of support balanced with a bit of softness. You've convinced me to stay away from the pillowtops and memory foam, and I'm currently thinking that a firm tight top and a latex topper would be the way to go. I've been looking for the "old" mattresses that used to be very comfortable and last for about 20 years! Back in 2000 I had a mattress like that. For the past several years, I've only found mattresses with memory foam...which is too hot to sleep on, and basically a piece of crap! Why don't they make mattresses like they used to? Where can I find a mattress that has no memory foam, latex, etc. like the ones you could find over 20 years ago?
