Hi Pete,
I want to know, What’s the best memory foam mattress? I’m getting older and tend to sleep hot all on my own. My current memory foam mattress makes that worse. It’s a gel foam that’s supposed to sleep cooler, but that doesn’t work all night. Thank you for any help you can provide. Angela Hi Angela, The very best is Magniflex MemoForm Foam. For you, specifically, I recommend one of the MagniCool Mattresses. Shown here: Magniflex Mattresses themattressexpert.com MemoForm Foam is, by far, the highest quality memory foam type mattresses. Do you sell lo-profile boxsprings for king-size beds, without having to purchase a mattress? Thanks, Jeanne Hello Jeanne, Yes. I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation. It comes in your choice of height 8” or 5”…and your choice of color…black, gray or brown. They’re very strong and assemble easily with no tools needed. What’s the best mattress for the money? I’ve been shopping at stores, following the advice of salespeople. That hasn’t worked out so well. Over the last 5 years, I’ve purchased 5 different mattresses. Some, I’ve been able to return. Some, I got stuck with. I can’t afford to lose anymore money on bad mattresses. I’ve just been reading some of your blog posts and now realize what I’ve been doing wrong. I’ve been focusing on the old name brands that I’ve always been familiar with, not knowing that they’ve all been sold to companies that no longer make a quality mattress. I now know to stay away from memory foam. I wish I knew that 5 years ago, when I traded in my old Sealy Posturepedic for another that turned out to be junk. A recommendation from you would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul Hi Paul, I’m sorry that you had to learn all this the hard way. Let me direct your attention to the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress. Shown here: Hybrid Latex Mattress - The Luxury Bliss plushbeds.com The heavy gauge, tempered steel, individually pocketed coils are designed to provide firm, contouring support that maintains the natural alignment of the body and spine, which is the best you can do to relieve back pain. The Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex upholstery gives you a comfortable sleeping surface that is designed to relieve pressure point pain. The feel of latex is unique, providing the feeling that you’re floating. What’s more, latex has been the longest lasting upholstery for the last 100 years. This mattress is extremely well made and reasonably priced. It comes in a choice of firmness. Besides personal choice, the choice of Medium is recommended for light to average weight people and the Medium Firm is recommended for above average weight people. Also, It comes with a 100 Night Trial Period, so you can’t go wrong. If you need a new foundation, as well, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height and color. They’re very strong and assemble easily with no tools needed. Shown here: https://www.themattressexpert.com/foundations_and_bases.html#/ Also recommended is a waterproof mattress protector, which prevents perspiration from seeping into the upholstery materials. Keeping your mattress clean and dry will enhance longevity. The Sleep & Beyond Organic Cotton Waterproof Mattress Protector is my recommendation…the one we use at home. It sleeps cool and works well. I am having a difficult, frustrating time finding a new mattress. I have horrible neck and back pain after sleeping in my boyfriend’s cheap, very old mattress for the past 2 years. I have read 100s of reviews on Serta, Simmons, memory foam, latex, etc. Considering my budget, memory foam is out of the question. But I am worried that innerspring mattresses will sag in the long run. I have looked at the Simmons Beautyrest, but I have concerns after reading all the bad reviews, so I’ve decided against it. I was also looking at a Sealy Posturepedic, but the reviews are just as bad. Can you please give me your suggestions on a popular mattress that is good for pain relief and costs $1000 - $1500? I am 5'6, 125lbs and my boyfriend is 5'11, 175lbs. Thank you so much for your expertise. It is a relief to find someone who cares and knows what they are talking about! Best, Jessica Hi Jessica, Sagging over time is the nature of the beast. The quality of the components is what determines how long that will take to happen. In the long run, there’s no avoiding it. However, you have an advantage. Your sizes mitigate in your favor. Sagging takes longer under lighter body weight than under heavier body weight. In terms of back pain relief, there’s nothing better than an individually pocketed coil system. The independent suspension, contouring support that it provides, maintains the natural alignment of the body and spine…giving where you’re heaviest and filling in where you’re lighter. In terms of sagging, pure latex upholstery is far more resilient than any other type of upholstery materials. Conversely, memory foam is the least resilient. The very best that you can do with the money you have to spend is: The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress. Individually Pocketed Coils & Pure, Organic & Hypoallergenic Latex. Excellent support, comfort and longevity. This mattress comes with a 100 Night Trial Period. Click on this link to view that mattress, and place your order. I have a L5-S1 Herniated Disc and Sciatica in my left leg. I am a back and a side sleeper. What important things do I need to be looking for in a mattress? What kind of king or queen mattress would you recommend? Thank you, Larry Hi Larry, The components in a mattress to consider, that will relieve your sciatica and do so for many years, are an individually pocketed coil and latex upholstery. That type of coil system provides firm, contouring push back support that will maintain the natural alignment of the body and spine. The upholstery that is the most resilient, is Pure, Organic & Hypoallergenic Latex…the best type of upholstery material for the last 100 years. The mattress I’m recommending has all this. My wife and I have been buying and returning memory foam mattresses. We love the way they feel when we get them, but not so after a couple/few months, depending on the model. We’ve also been experiencing sleeping warm and they usually have an unpleasant, chemically smell. We been through this a number of times, never really connecting the problems with the memory foam directly, until finding your blog. So, my question is, are there any memory foam mattresses out there that have that feel that we enjoy, that keeps that feel and without the smell of heat? Thanks, Jason Hi Jason, Yes and no. There are no memory foam mattresses that will satisfy all of your concerns. There are mattresses made with MemoForm Foam. These are made in Italy and have been available in Europe for many years. Magniflex is the brand name…developed by The Magni Family in Italy. They have, recently, opened a manufacturing facility here, in the US. These mattresses perform just the way you want…no chemicals, no off gassing, no odor, no sleeping hot…long lasting, with a 20 year manufacturer’s warranty. All of the comfort of memory foam when new…and staying that way. There are a variety of models from which to choose. Here’s a link to that line of mattresses: https://www.themattressexpert.com/magniflex.html#/ IF YOU LIKE MEMORY FOAM, YOU’LL LOVE MAGNIFLEX!!! I'm trying to replace a mattress equivalent to a Dormia/Classic brand, model number pt1020xxd. It's memory foam, made in 2009. I know there are lots of memory foam options out there just not sure where to start. Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks, Tonya Hi Tonya, Unfortunately, most of today’s memory foam mattresses are using lower quality memory foam than you’re used to….designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing…sleeping hot…and off gassing the toxic chemicals from which most memory foam is made. My recommendation is an Italian company called Magniflex…their MemoForm foam provides all the comfort of quality memory foam without any of the negative side effects. And while they have a manufacturing facility in the US, all of their components are produced in Italy. Here is a link to their line of mattresses: https://www.themattressexpert.com/magniflex.html#/ If You Like Memory Foam, You’ll Love Magniflex Thanks, Pete - TME Delivery is Always Free Online Ordering is Easy & Secure. We recently purchased the Tempur-Pedic mattress, but unfortunately, it appears I'm one of the few people who can't sleep comfortably on this mattress. My mid-section begins to sag in the middle and causes lower back pain every morning. My wife and I have been sleeping on this mattress for about 45 days now, so we're still within the return policy time frame. I'm a tall guy (6'3") of average weight (200lbs). My wife is 5'10" and about the same weight as me. She initially had back pain but eventually got used to it, until recently. Have you had similar complaints from other people regarding Tempurpedic mattresses? If so, what bed did they switch to? I've been going back to the mattress store to try other beds. We only get 1 re-select, so I have to find something I can rest well on for years to come. I'm torn between getting a standard spring mattress or a memory foam/spring combination mattress. I like the feel of the memory foam but am worried about the durability over time. I'm disappointed because I REALLY wanted to like the Tempur-Pedic. I could use some sagely advice before I make a final decision. Thanks, Michael Michael, You're not alone. And there’s a lot more than just a few of you. There are tons of complaints about that type of mattress, usually coming after the trial period has expired. You’re one of the luckier ones. Memory foam, in general, is not all it's cracked up to be. If I were you, I'd draw from your current experience and avoid memory foam altogether. It’s the memory foam that allows you to sink, which causes your body to be misaligned, which is causing your back pain. An individually pocketed coil mattress that’s upholstered with latex or polyurethane…anything but memory foam, will be your best option. At TME, we offer NO mattresses that are upholstered with memory foam. https://www.themattressexpert.com/#/ In lieu of Tempur-Pedic, we feature Magniflex…a superior mattress, by far.
