Hi Pete,
I like a firm mattress but my wife likes a soft one. Please tell me what kind of mattress I should buy to satisfy both of us. (Please , something not too expensive). Thanks, Sam Hi Sam, Your best option at the lowest price is the Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress. Order that in Medium Firm. Add to that, a Soft Organic Latex Topper from Latex for Less. What you’ll end up with is a quality firm mattress with a nice comfy surface. And, the cost is surprisingly low…everybody’s happy. Here are the links you need to view those products and place your order: Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress https://ecoterrabeds.com/products/hybrid-latex-mattress?sscid=71k8_m5d12&utm_campaign=4342051&utm_source=share-a-sale Latex for Less Mattress Toppers https://www.latexforless.com/products/latex-topper?variant=134346899481&sscid=71k8_rmsu0&utm_source=share-a-sale&utm_campaign=4342051 ALSO: You don’t want to put a new mattress on an old foundation. Doing so will void the warranty of any mattress. If you need a new boxspring/foundation, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height and color. They’re very strong and assemble easily with no tools needed. They are upholstered foundations, a bit dressy, but reasonably priced. My husband and I have had a bad experience with our current pillow top mattress sagging, and in a very short period of time. We’ve also tried 100% latex mattress, but couldn’t seem to adjust and still had back pain most days. Our guest room has an old Spring Air back supporter firm mattress with a latex topper and it is still pretty comfy. For man years, we had slept on a Simmons Beautyrest two sided flippable mattress and it was also a good mattress. So, we’re thinking rather than keep wasting time and money on fancy over priced mattresses, we’d like to find just a good solid inexpensive firm mattress that will not sag. One that we can put a ~2” latex topper on…soft most likely. Could you recommend a good inexpensive firm mattress that will not sag? We’re looking for a King under $2,000 including the topper. I am 5’7” ~160lbs and my hubby is 6’0” ~220lbs. I sleep on my stomach and he’s on his side or back. Would greatly appreciate any recommendations!!! Thanks, Jen Hi Jen, Those old mattresses were extremely well made. But, a lot has changed since then. Most of today’s mattresses are upholstered with memory foam, which wears quickly…especially if it’s a pillowtop. The pillowtop part being the first thing to wear well. And while an all latex mattress is the highest quality and longest lasting of all the foams, it doesn’t have the pushback support needed for worn discs. No all foam mattress will relieve that kind of back pain. I have an excellent option for you, which you’ll be pleased to hear, comes well under budget…one with the coils you need for support. The Mattress: The Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex in the Medium Firm option for your husband’s size…offering firm, contouring support with latex upholstery. I can’t afford an expensive mattress. Nor can I afford to waste money on a cheap, crappy mattress. Please tell me that I can find a good quality mattress cheap. Thanks, Cal Hi Cal, Such a mattress does exist. The Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress is the “Best for the Least”. Support, comfort and longevity is what you’ll get for surprisingly little money. I'm looking for a mattress for my 3 year old girl. I'm not sure where to start. Could you give me your thoughts and suggestions?? Thanks, Shauna Hi Shauna, You start by avoiding mattresses made with memory foam. Most memory foam mattresses off gas toxic chemicals. All memory foams sleep hot and wear out quickly. A 3 year old child has to have firm support for growing bones. A firm, individually pocketed coil mattress is where to start. The independent suspension support that this type of coil system provides, will maintain the natural alignment of the body and spine…and self adjust to a growing body over the years. A mattress like this that’s upholstered with pure, organic and hypoallergenic latex will provide surface comfort that lasts for many years. Here’s a link to the Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress I’m recommending. https://ecoterrabeds.com/products/hybrid-latex-mattress?sscid=71k8_m5d12&utm_campaign=4342051&utm_source=share-a-sale I recommend that you order that in Medium Firm. Looking forward, about 10 years, your daughter will like start to take on a more womanly shape. At that time, she’ll want a bit more surface comfort to accommodate her widening hips. At that time, add a Soft Latex Mattress Topper to achieve that. Latex for Less has the best prices for those. Shown Here: Latex for Less Mattress Toppers https://www.latexforless.com/products/latex-topper?variant=134346899481&sscid=71k8_rmsu0&utm_source=share-a-sale&utm_campaign=4342051 Following these recommendations will result in long term use. At about the age of 12, It’s typical for girls to want a makeover for their bedrooms, which usually includes a larger mattress. So, if you have space in her bedroom, I suggest buying a full or queen size now, which will save you from having to replace the mattress then. If you need a new boxspring/foundation, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of 2 heights and 3 colors. They’re very strong and assemble easily with no tools needed. It’s an upholstered foundation that’s a bit dressy, but not expensive. Shown here: Magniflex Foundations https://www.themattressexpert.com/foundations_and_bases.html#/ Also recommended is a waterproof mattress protector, which prevents perspiration from seeping into the upholstery materials. Keeping your mattress clean and dry will prevent odors and enhance longevity. The Sleep & Beyond Organic Cotton Waterproof Mattress Protector is my recommendation…the one we use at home. We have owned 6 mattress sets in the past 5 years. We keep giving them away. I am 5'11 240 lbs, My wife is 5'7 170 lbs. We both have lower back and neck problems. My wife likes the ideal of the no motion tranfer of the memory foam, but I like the feel of latex better, more support for me. So far, she’s been deciding. What product can you recommend for us. The memory foam seems to break down quickly. And before we know it, we are sleeping in a hole in the mattress. We are in desperate need of a king size mattress…the cheaper the better, but don't want to sacrifice quality. Please Help. Thanks, Brian Hi Brian, Mattresses made with memory foam don’t last very long. Memory foam is purposefully designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing…which is why you’ve been through soo many mattresses in such a short time. Both of you will be much happier with Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex Upholstery…comfortable, longest lasting and also providing no motion transfer. Adding to the lack of motion transfer is an individually pocketed coil system. A mattress using both will be like a little bit of Heaven. What’s more, you won’t be buying another mattress for many years. The best for the least amount of money is: The Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress This mattress is on sale and comes with a 90 Night Trial Period Click on this link to view that mattress: https://ecoterrabeds.com/products/hybrid-latex-mattress?sscid=71k8_m5d12&utm_campaign=4342051&utm_source=share-a-sale You can place your order through that link. My wife has been on the computer doing her due diligence researching about a new mattress that we desperately need. She’s been reading your blog posts and is convinced that we need a mattress and a latex topper. The economy being what it is, I’m not really interested in spending more money than I need to. So I’d like to hear from you, why does she believe that the topper is as important as the mattress. My wife is on the small side. I’m a bit heavy. Thanks, Larry Hi Larry, The economy, being what it is, is exactly why you should use a latex topper. Latex is the most resilient upholstery material available. It will absorb much to all of your body weight, depending on how much you weigh. The result is a mattress that will last far longer than it was designed to. In several years, all you’ll have to replace is the topper, which costs far less than a new mattress. From an economic standpoint, it’s the best way to spend your money. There are few things that you can buy, these days, that actually pay for themselves. A latex topper and a waterproof mattress protector are two such items. For those who are watching how they spend their money, my recommendations are as follows. My mattress is a 12 year old Spring Air. Is there a rule of thumb about how long I should keep it? If it is time for a new one, and I think I am getting close. What would you suggest? I sleep on my stomach most of the time, with some time spent on my left side. I weigh about 200 lbs. I read an old post in which you suggested the Sealy Reserve line, but I believe that the line has been discontinued. I am not partial to any one manufacturer. I'm looking to spend $700-$1,000 for queen size for something that is medium - firm. What are my options? Thanks for your help. Thanks, Jane Hi Jane, Advertising by some mattress chains suggest replacing your mattress at the age of 8 years. Of course, this advertising is geared to creating sales. The time to replace your mattress comes when you are no longer sleeping well. Age has nothing to do with it. When the time comes, your best option within your price range is: The Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress. The individually pocketed coils provide firm, contouring support that maintains the natural alignment of the body and spine. The Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex upholstery provides long lasting surface comfort. It’s free of chemicals, so there’s no off gassing. Here’s a link to where you can view that mattress.
