Hi Pete,
I have a new twin size Sealy Posturepedic mattress that I had purchased in December. I thought I’d treat myself to a new mattress for Christmas. The mattress started breaking down…sagging in the middle, after only one month! So this month, I bought a new box spring for it. I thought the new box spring would help, but it didn't. I'd like to know what mattress you would recommend for a 200 pound 66 year old woman. The most I could pay would be $700. I thank you for your time. Sincerely, Randi Hi Randi, After Sealy was sold to Tempur-Pedic, it’s never been the same high quality and value that it once had been…not the quality that you remember. It’s the memory foam in their mattresses, made today, that has failed. It will be important for you to avoid ANY mattress that’s upholstered with memory foam…aka: gel foam, visco foam. Based on that, your size and price point, I recommend the Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress in Medium Firm. The pure, organic and hypoallergenic latex foam is comfortable without allowing you to sink into it. No Sagging No Sleeping Hot No Off Gassing This mattress is currently On Sale…at your price point. Delivery is Free…and comes with a 90 Night Trial. Click on this link to view that mattress and place your order. Hi Pete,
I am desperate to buy mattresses for my new home, king, queen and twin. The only mattress I've slept on and loved for 25 yrs is the Sealy Posturepe Montoire. What is a good replacement??? The Saatva looks great, but almost $3k for a king is a bit pricy. There is always Costco's Sealy inner spring plush... but the reviews are so mixed I'm scared to go there. What do you recommend? Thanks, Betsy Hi Betsy, Nothing is made like your old Sealy. All of the name brands have been sold. Sealy and S&F in 2013…Simmons and Serta in 2016. All of them are now using memory foam…not used in your 25 y/o Sealy. Memory foam is specifically designed to wear much more quickly and mattresses made with it to need much more frequent replacing. And if that’s not bad enough, it consists of 61 different chemicals. They don’t bother to cure the foam, like they did the poly foam in your old Sealy, so those toxic chemicals off gas in your bedroom. Memory foam is the only temperature sensitive upholstery material. It softens as it warms from your body’s heat, reflects that heat back to you, and allows the heavier parts of your body you to sink into it, which causes back pain and numbness of the extremities. The mattress my wife and I have at home is more than 10 years old and still like new, despite each of us weighing more than 200 lbs. What’s more, I sleep and wake without pain, despite having a very bad back. I would recommend Natura Greenspring Ultra Plush for your king. It’s the highest quality mattress that I’ve been able to find while shopping at the industry trade shows. Due to the high quality of the components, it’s not as soft as it sounds. Shown here: Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush Mattress https://cc-mattress-llc.square.site/product/natura-greenspring-liberta-ultra-plush/92?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true You can’t go wrong with that mattress for all 3, I suspect that you won’t need that high of quality for the other two. Similarly made, but with a lower coil count, is the Williams Kingston Plush is an excellent choice for the other two…or even your king if you’re carrying average body weight. The Williams Kingston Plush Mattress https://cc-mattress-llc.square.site/product/kingston-plush/105?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=TBPEGMF6GAOUPNC4SCBQMGLT You can save even more if twin is for a child. The Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress is ideal for any child. Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress https://ecoterrabeds.com/products/hybrid-latex-mattress?sscid=71k8_m5d12&utm_campaign=4342051&utm_source=share-a-sale Needless to say, none of these mattresses have any memory foam in them. We sell no mattresses with memory foam. All of these mattresses use an individually pocketed coil system, which maintains the natural alignment of the body and spine. All are upholstered with Latex, which has been the best upholstery material for the last 100 years…longest lasting and most comfortable, creating the unique feeling that you’re floating. If you need a new boxspring for any of these mattresses, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height, 5” or 8”, and in your choice of color…black, brown or gray. They’re very strong and assemble easily with no tools needed. They are upholstered foundations, a bit dressy, but reasonably priced. Shown here: Magniflex Foundations https://www.themattressexpert.com/foundations_and_bases.html#/ Also recommended is a waterproof mattress protector, which prevents perspiration from seeping into the upholstery materials. Keeping your mattress clean and dry and will enhance the longevity of your mattress and keep it odor free. Every mattress should have one. First, I want to thank you for all of the great information that your blog provides. I’ve learned a lot. I know to avoid mattresses made with memory foam. I’m looking for a mattress for my guest bedroom and don’t want to spend much. But I do want something with some quality to it, so that I can do this only once. I’ve learned that a latex hybrid mattress with coils is my best option. What’s the best, cheapest latex hybrid mattress? Thanks again, Frank Hi Frank, A simple question deserves a simple answer. I am trying to find the best mattress for my 3-year-old daughter, who is moving from a crib to a full-sized bed. What brand(s) do you recommend that is good yet inexpensive? And it seems that the particular type of mattress for a girl should be plush and not firm? Thanks for anything you can tell me. Thank you, Kimberly Hi Kimberly, The Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress is the “Best for the Least”. Extremely well made and surprisingly inexpensive for the quality. This mattress promotes proper spinal alignment and comfort that feels like you’re floating. I recommend the Medium option for her. This mattress will be the only mattress you’ll need for her. Do you still sell the Wolf Brolynn Old Fashioned Two Sided Mattress? We bought one years ago and would like to buy another for another bedroom. Thanks, Anna Good Morning Anna, I’m sorry to say, that mattress is no longer being made. It was discontinued when Wolf sold their company to Blue Bell Mattress. Thanks, Pete ********* Good morning, Pete, Is there anything close to that, that you would recommend? I am desperate to find mattress made of no foam or toxic materials. It comes is 2 choices of comfort. The Medium would be more like the feel of the Brolynn. If this is for a heavy person, the Medium Firm would be better. And like the Brolynn, it’s not expensive. And, it comes with a 90 Night Trial. Here’s a link where you can view that mattress and place your order. I like a firm mattress but my wife likes a soft one. Please tell me what kind of mattress I should buy to satisfy both of us. (Please , something not too expensive). Thanks, Sam Hi Sam, Your best option at the lowest price is the Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress. Order that in Medium Firm. Add to that, a Soft Organic Latex Topper from Latex for Less. What you’ll end up with is a quality firm mattress with a nice comfy surface. And, the cost is surprisingly low…everybody’s happy. Doing so will void the warranty of any mattress. If you need a new boxspring/foundation, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height and color. My husband and I have had a bad experience with our current pillow top mattress sagging, and in a very short period of time. We’ve also tried 100% latex mattress, but couldn’t seem to adjust and still had back pain most days. Our guest room has an old Spring Air back supporter firm mattress with a latex topper and it is still pretty comfy. For man years, we had slept on a Simmons Beautyrest two sided flippable mattress and it was also a good mattress. So, we’re thinking rather than keep wasting time and money on fancy over priced mattresses, we’d like to find just a good solid inexpensive firm mattress that will not sag. One that we can put a ~2” latex topper on…soft most likely. Could you recommend a good inexpensive firm mattress that will not sag? We’re looking for a King under $2,000 including the topper. I am 5’7” ~160lbs and my hubby is 6’0” ~220lbs. I sleep on my stomach and he’s on his side or back. Would greatly appreciate any recommendations!!! Thanks, Jen Hi Jen, Those old mattresses were extremely well made. But, a lot has changed since then. Most of today’s mattresses are upholstered with memory foam, which wears quickly…especially if it’s a pillowtop. The pillowtop part being the first thing to wear well. And while an all latex mattress is the highest quality and longest lasting of all the foams, it doesn’t have the pushback support needed for worn discs. No all foam mattress will relieve that kind of back pain. I have an excellent option for you, which you’ll be pleased to hear, comes well under budget…one with the coils you need for support. The Mattress: The Eco-Terra Hybrid Latex in the Medium Firm option for your husband’s size…offering firm, contouring support with latex upholstery.
