Hello TME, I am in need of a high quality King size mattress. I am a side sleeper and my current mattress needs to be replaced. The most common is topical, the reaction you get by touching, like with latex gloves. An airborne allergy to latex is rare. Unlike latex gloves, when latex is processed into a foam, a great deal of the protein, which is the naturally present allergen, is removed… rendering it hypoallergenic. The mattress is covered and you’ll use a mattress protector and fitted sheet, so your skin never gets anywhere near the latex. If your allergy is topical, then you’re perfectly safe with a mattress that’s upholstered with latex. “Hypoallergenic” is a term given when at least 90% of the allergen is removed. It does not mean “Allergen Free”. So if you have the rare type allergy to latex, you should not consider a mattress with any type of latex unless it’s completely synthetic.
