My wife and I are an extremely overweight couple. I’m 6’2” and weigh 350 lbs. My wife is a little shorter and weighs a little less, I’m assuming. She won’t say. When we replaced our old Sealy mattress, which I wish we still had, we’ve been through a couple of mattresses with disastrous results. We need a complete bed… mattress, boxspring and frame. I’ve been buying expensive name brand mattresses that don’t last. The initial comfort starts to diminish after only a few months. I don’t understand. The mattress that I thought needed replacing was better. I should have kept it. It was an old S&F. Where can I get a quality mattress that lasts longer, like in the old days? The reason is the memory foam they are all using now that they didn’t use prior to having been sold. We purchased an Eco-Terra mattress and we aren’t happy with it. It’s not as substantial as the Wolf mattress we purchased from you a couple of years ago. The edge support isn’t very good. And, it’s not as comfortable. I need a mattress that’s will relieve my back pain and have a good seating edge. Is Wolf still making mattresses? They discontinued everything that Wolf had been making and installed a line of mattresses that are all upholstered with memory foam. While mattresses are available with the Wolf brand, they aren’t the same as the Wolf Mattress you bought, which was upholstered with poly and latex foams. The Eco-Terra is a well made mattress for the price. It’s a minimal mattress with latex upholstery, but better used in a guest bedroom or a children’s bedroom. All of their mattresses are tufted with large buttons. The buttons pierce your rib cage or other parts of your body. I had to purchase an expensive mattress cover to help with this problem. I have had the mattress almost a year and have never slept well on it. It leaves an indentation where I sleep and the mattress is not firm enough. I can also feel the springs when turning over. I have almost constant back pain. I’m looking for the best mattress to relieve that pain. I bought a mattress from a store that has memory foam in it. The salesman said it would relieve my back pain. It’s now just past the comfort guarantee period and my back hurts more now than it did before I bought this thing. I wish I had found your blog before making that purchase. I seem to be in a tough spot. I’m a big guy, 6’ 250 lbs. I have a bad back with a herniated disc. I need a mattress with support on the firm side. We aren’t willing both heavy, but with the same conditions. My back has a herniated disc, but also a bulging disc and degenerative disc disease. My wife has your wife’s hip problem, which seems to be fairly common among females. Over the years, we’ve tried a number of mattresses with varying degrees of success. The last one we bought has worked so well for both of us, that we stopped experimenting. That was almost 11 years ago…and our nearly 11 year old mattress is still in great condition with no plans to replace it. The same one will work just as well for the two of you. What’s the highest quality mattress if money is no object? I see mattresses ranging into the tens of thousands of dollars. Are they the best, or simply overpriced? Quite often, the most expensive doesn’t provide the longevity that makes it worth the money spent for it. My recommendation comes in 2 parts…a mattress and a topper. If you buy a mattress that’s well padded enough to satisfy your desire for a luxurious surface feel, too often it’s that surface upholstery that will wear first, and much too quickly to make it worth the money.
