I have spent weeks searching for the right mattress. I visited ALL the stores. I tested hundreds of mattresses until I came across the Sealy’s Latex Reflexion line. I was sold! Hello Peter: Thanks for answering as best you could my question I posed on the forum. It turns out that we finally found a company locally in the Mesa, AZ area that handles the Sealy Reflexion line: The Room Store. We tried both of the mattresses they had displayed: the Huntington Beach, and the Venice beach. While we were considering the Newport Beach, we decided to go with the Venice Beach. We called this past Saturday (May 7th), and were well taken care of by Lygia. Even with shipping costs (and the purchase of 2 Sealy Latex pillows), we still saved over $300. Thanks so much for the education on mattresses…and if anyone in the west or southwestern US has any doubts that it may be worth their while to purchase their mattress, let them know how much we saved!

Hi Peter, a couple of weeks ago I knew next to nothing about mattresses (heck, we were sleeping on a Serta for 8 years) but after doing some research on the internet I came across your column and couldn’t stop reading through all 300+ (now 400+) questions. I recently purchased 3 mattress and box spring sets from Pete at Mattress Experts, including a Sealy latex Waikiki. I went to the store in NJ to pick everything out. Peter, What can I say other than, “D-mn, you know your stuff !” I purchased the Sealy Posturepedic with the cushion firm pad last Tuesday… I haven’t slept this well in years ! The firmness took a little getting used to for the first couple nights but, I don’t wake due to any kind of pressure point pain. I just wanted to comment on my experience with Peter and his store. Consider yourselves lucky that there is a mattress expert who is honest and upfront about things, and won’t tell you “what you want to hear” to get your business. I went to the store in NJ, and was immediately greeted by Peter and his daughter. There was NO pressure from anyone to buy. They told me to “come back tomorrow”, “think about it”, “talk to your wife”…all the stuff that typical salesman NEVER say to you. Anyhow, I chose the Solana Beach bed, which has been super comfy. (And it is definitely 16 inches high!) Peter tells it like it is, and that’s hard to find in this industry. Thanks, Pete.

We live in CA and I’ve spent the last 3 days reading your Q&A on the web. What a wealth of information you are!! The salesman at Sleep Train was pretty surprised at how much I knew about the beds and was taken aback when I told him NO way on the Simmons he was trying to push on us. I spoke to Lygia on Saturday about the Waikiki Reflexion we were going to buy here and I spoke to you twice on Sunday. I can tell you we need people like you here in CA! You are both so helpful and wonderful and no BS!! We ended up changing our minds on the Reflexion and got an Ultra Plush Eurotop Sealy Postur-pedic mainly due to being able to get it quickly (1 day vs. 4 wks.) and it was less expensive thanks to your prices and their policy of matching it and beating it by 5%. I don’t think we’ll be disappointed after talking to you and reading all you have to say about the SP’s and it felt GREAT in the store. We did order the Sealy Latex pillows from you and I look forward to getting those. I wish we could have got the bed from you too. If time wasn’t a factor, we surely would have!!! We have friends in PA and I’ll be recommending you to them when they buy their new bed and anyone else I know!

Even though I was let go by Sleep Country USA after 6 years in the company (and as a top salesman), it seemed “smoke and mirrors” advertising/marketing was more important to protect their incredibly high margins. Being a retired Army Officer (West Point class of 1977), I knew at some time my own ethics would eventually lead to a parting of the ways. Dear Pete, The Sealy “Crystal Creek” set is great; now I don’t want to get out of bed when the alarm goes off for work. Using the information you provided in your web-site to make my purchase, I feel I made a very good selection and got the best price available. Some good things to say about dealing with your company: Your web-site was one of the most informative ones on mattresses, as a matter of fact the only retail company that provided any useful, objective and fair pricing information online. On the phone and in e-mails: quick, helpful & honest answers received. Price, the best out there and no gimmicks attached (one company wanted $90 for a metal bed frame). The “big” retail companies in the area and department stores don’t even come close on any of the above. Some things you don’t need to do: Pay for advertising, you are wasting your money if you do. The customer referrals I’m sure you get from the great service you provide must give you more than enough advertising. As you now know, as soon as someone mentions they are shopping for a mattress, I will refer them directly to Mattress Experts. Thanks for making the experience of shopping for & purchasing a mattress set a painless one.

In researching what other choices I had in addition to the local shops, I found Peter’s company on the internet.  Do your research online and test-drive the mattresses you’re considering at local shops.  Then decide on what you want (names of mattresses will probably be different so look for the construction/materials info) and compare prices.  You will not only save money but will also receive great service from The Mattress Experts.  Make sure you thoroughly research what you think you might want, and ask questions when you’re not sure.  Local stores have seasonal sales, but in reality, these stores can discount their bedding all day everyday so don’t be fooled by their sales, different mattress names, or local service (no real advantage).  You won’t be disappointed buying from Peter and Co.

It turns out that we finally found a company locally in the Mesa, AZ area that handles the Sealy Reflexion line: The Room Store. We tried both of the mattresses they had displayed: the Huntington Beach, and the Venice beach. While we were considering the Newport Beach, we decided to go with the Venice Beach. We called this past Saturday (May 7th), and were well taken care of by Lygia. Even with shipping costs (and the purchase of 2 Sealy Latex pillows), we still saved over $300. Thanks so much for the education on mattresses…and if anyone in the west or southwestern US has any doubts that it may be worth their while to purchase their mattress, let them know how much we saved!

I recently purchased 3 mattress and box spring sets from Pete at Mattress Experts, including a Sealy latex Waikiki. I went to the store in NJ to pick everything out. I just wanted to comment on my experience with Peter and his store. Consider yourselves lucky that there is a mattress expert who is honest and upfront about things, and won’t tell you “what you want to hear” to get your business. I went to the store in NJ, and was immediately greeted by Peter and his daughter. There was NO pressure from anyone to buy. They told me to “come back tomorrow”, “think about it”, “talk to your wife”…all the stuff that typical salesman NEVER say to you. Anyhow, I chose the Solana Beach bed, which has been super comfy. (And it is definitely 16 inches high!) Peter tells it like it is, and that’s hard to find in this industry. Thanks, Pete.

We live in CA and I’ve spent the last 3 days reading your Q&A on the web. What a wealth of information you are!! The salesman at Sleep Train was pretty surprised at how much I knew about the beds and was taken aback when I told him NO way on the Simmons he was trying to push on us. I spoke to Lygia on Saturday about the Waikiki Reflexion we were going to buy here and I spoke to you twice on Sunday. I can tell you we need people like you here in CA! You are both so helpful and wonderful and no BS!! We ended up changing our minds on the Reflexion and got an Ultra Plush Eurotop Sealy Postur-pedic mainly due to being able to get it quickly (1 day vs. 4 wks.) and it was less expensive thanks to your prices and their policy of matching it and beating it by 5%. I don’t think we’ll be disappointed after talking to you and reading all you have to say about the SP’s and it felt GREAT in the store. We did order the Sealy Latex pillows from you and I look forward to getting those. I wish we could have got the bed from you too. If time wasn’t a factor, we surely would have!!! We have friends in PA and I’ll be recommending you to them when they buy their new bed and anyone else I know!

Even though I was let go by Sleep Country USA after 6 years in the company (and as a top salesman), it seemed “smoke and mirrors” advertising/marketing was more important to protect their incredibly high margins. Dear Pete, The Sealy “Crystal Creek” set is great; now I don’t want to get out of bed when the alarm goes off for work. Using the information you provided in your web-site to make my purchase, I feel I made a very good selection and got the best price available. Some good things to say about dealing with your company: Your web-site was one of the most informative ones on mattresses, as a matter of fact the only retail company that provided any useful, objective and fair pricing information online. On the phone and in e-mails: quick, helpful & honest answers received. Price, the best out there and no gimmicks attached (one company wanted $90 for a metal bed frame). The “big” retail companies in the area and department stores don’t even come close on any of the above. Some things you don’t need to do: Pay for advertising, you are wasting your money if you do. The customer referrals I’m sure you get from the great service you provide must give you more than enough advertising. As you now know, as soon as someone mentions they are shopping for a mattress, I will refer them directly to Mattress Experts. Thanks for making the experience of shopping for & purchasing a mattress set a painless one.

In researching what other choices I had in addition to the local shops, I found Peter’s company on the internet.  Do your research online and test-drive the mattresses you’re considering at local shops.  Then decide on what you want (names of mattresses will probably be different so look for the construction/materials info) and compare prices.  You will not only save money but will also receive great service from The Mattress Experts.  Make sure you thoroughly research what you think you might want, and ask questions when you’re not sure.  Local stores have seasonal sales, but in reality, these stores can discount their bedding all day everyday so don’t be fooled by their sales, different mattress names, or local service (no real advantage).  You won’t be disappointed buying from Peter and Co.
