They don't make mattresses the way they used to

I understand they don't make mattresses the way they used to. 
I see the wide range of hybrid products which represent good options. 
Is there anything out there at any price that most closely resembles the mattresses of yesterday?

Hi Rick,
That depends on to which yesterday you are referring.
Let’s go back to the pre memory foam, pre one-sided mattress, no memory foam, polyurethane foam upholstery era, which began in the early 1970’s to around the turn of the century.
It was shortly after this time when mattress quality started to slide.
 
Oddly enough, a mattress made as those had been made isn’t very expensive.
There are a couple of reasons why this type of mattress doesn’t cost a lot.
The main reason is that there’s no advertising of them…an otherwise huge expense that needs to be recovered at the retail level. In fact, this type of mattress is the least expensive we carry.
The FedEx delivery is another reason for the lack of dollars needed.
 
The way you posed your question suggests the common mindset of, “The more it costs, the better it must be”…which couldn’t be further from the truth.
