HI Pete,
I’ve been sleeping on a Tempurpedic mattress. It’s only a few months old and past my exchange period. I spent a ton of money on this and would hate to have to buy a new mattress. It was comfortable at first. But now I’m sinking into it too far and experiencing back, hip and shoulder pain that I never had before. This has been a terrible mattress, that I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Is there anything you can recommend to fix this? My mom told me that you were the person to ask. Thanks, Sandra Hi Sandra, A perfect example as to why consulting mom is a good idea. There is a fix. Identifying the problem is helpful, to start. The memory foam on the top of your mattress is the source of your troubles. It’s a temperature sensitive material that softens as it warms from the body heat you give off. At first, no so much. But memory foam isn’t very durable or resilient. It doesn’t take long before you’re sinking into it so far that it throws off the natural alignment of your spine, causing back pain. Once you sink into it, you’ll hit the firm poly foam layer that supports it. This is when your hip and shoulder pain develops. The fix comes in two steps. Flip the mattress over, which you should do now. The flip side is too firm to sleep on comfortably, but you’ll get some relief for your back pain right away. Add to the flip side, a Soft Pure Organic Latex Topper. This will provide the long term surface comfort you need to relieve your hip and shoulder pain. The highest quality Latex Topper at the lowest price is from Latex for Less. Click on this link to view that and to place your order. Natural Latex Mattress Topper latexforless.com 3” provides a greater depth of softness…without creating that sinking in feeling that your experiencing now. Opting for a cover is a good idea. Shipping is very fast, so you’ll be right as rain in no time. Thanks, Pete - TME Delivery is Always Free Online Ordering is Easy & Secure. My husband purchased a new temperpedic, three weeks in and I am miserable. As a side sleeper my hips are so painful, lower back and spine feel out of alignment and the neck and shoulder pain is painful. I tried adding a soft mattress topper to my side of the bed. While it helped slightly the pain persists and seems to be getting worse. It feels like a rock. Will the bed get softer over time, do I need a different pillow, do I find a cool gel or cool foam not to big for my side of the bed. Only silver lining no walking each other when turning in the bed. He seems comfortable but I am miserable while the pain gets worse. Please help. -Pain in MN
