Sleep Number Bed Mattress Becoming Very Uncomfortable

​Hi Pete,
We've had a sleep number bed for a few years now and it's getting very uncomfortable. I've been reading your blog & am considering getting a latex topper to make it more comfortable until we can get a new mattress. Would you suggest the 2” or 3” latex topper?
What would you suggest for a new mattress? 
I have scoliosis so I know I need something firm for proper back support but I sleep on my side a lot, which can be hard on my hips & shoulders.
I also have asthma, so need to stay away from any memory foam. 
My husband often complains of back pain in the morning (which I'm guessing is due to the air mattress & the inadequate support).

Glad to hear it.
And, you may be glad to hear that a new mattress for you may not be necessary. The first thing to wear in a Sleep Number mattress is the memory foam  padding. Your quilted cover unzips. Look to see how thick the foam is in your mattress and replace it with a layer of latex that is the same thickness. 
You may very well find that replacing the padding with a layer of latex is all you need for some time to come.
