Simmons Beautyrest Mattress at LaQuinta

​Hi Pete,
I’m looking to buy a mattress for my 85 year old dad.
He bought an expensive mattress that sagged quickly, so the store exchanged it.
3 months later, this newer mattress is starting to sag in the same place.
He recently stayed at a LaQuinta, where he slept on a Simmons Beautyrest, which he liked. Should we be looking for one of those?
Is there something better?

Hi Mark,
The body impressions that have formed on your dad’s current and previous mattresses are likely due to the memory foam used in most of today’s mattresses.
However, there is another possible cause.
If you did not replace an old boxspring when these mattresses were purchased, that could also be a reason for the impressions, as any new mattress will conform to the weak spots in an old boxspring.
If you are using an old boxspring, itwill need to be replaced.
If what’s supporting the mattress was replaced at the time the new mattresses were purchased, they most likely do not need replacing.

Before buying a new mattress, there may be a way to salvage a reasonably new mattress that’s worn poorly due to memory foam.
While made as a one sided mattress, the flip side is usable.
Flip the mattress over, which will put the memory foam on the bottom and his body closer to the support system.
It’s a trick that works often enough to try, which ends up saving a lot of money.
The flip side is likely to be too firm to sleep on comfortably. So add whatever you have handy to cushion it…like a comforter.
If the experiment is successful, then all you need to buy is a soft latex topper.

2” Soft is comfortable. 3” Soft is a bit more luxurious.
I recommend getting the optional organic cotton cover to go with it.


It’s a good idea to use one, even if buying a new mattress.
Latex is extremely resistant and will absorb much to all of his body weight.
The result is a mattress that lasts longer than it would without it…essentially paying for itself in the long run.


If you buy a Simmons Beautyrest mattress, the same thing is going to happen. Simmons has been using the same memory foam since that company was sold, back in 2016.
