Hi Pete,
My husband and I have been looking for a new mattress. We have had our current mattress for 13 years! It's a very big and important purchase and we just want to know what would be best for us. We’ve tried out several from Serta, Sealy, Ashley and Tempur-Pedic. We prefer the comfort and look of the S&F mattresses, but do not know if they are worth the price. We have read a lot of bad reviews. We just want to know that if we are going to spend $2000+ on a mattress, it needs to be the right choice. What would you recommend? Thanks, Ronnie Hi Ronnie, Since the last time you purchased a mattress, much has changed, and not for the better. All of the “name brands” have been sold. Tempur-Pedic bought Sealy and S&F. Simmons and Serta were purchased by an investment company. Quality is no longer job #1. Today, it’s all about profit. The memory foam they all use is purposefully designed to turn mattresses into a disposable item, needing frequent replacing. To add insult to injury, memory foam sleeps hot and off gases the toxic chemicals from which it’s made. In short, you’ll be disappointed with any mattress made by any of those bands….hence, all of those bad reviews. We’ve sold all of those bands prior to them being sold. Today, we only sell mattresses with No Memory Foam in them. My recommendations: Best The Natura of Canada Greenspring Mattresses, available in 4 choices of comfort. Highest coil count, all firmer than they sound. These are the mattresses we recommend for heavy people. My wife and I, each weighing more than 200 lbs., have been sleeping on the ultra plush model for more than 10 years, and it’s still in great condition. Shown here: Natura of Canada Greenspring Mattresses https://www.themattressexpert.com/natura_mattresses.html#/ Best Value PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattresses, available in 2 choices of comfort. These are the mattresses we recommend for average weight people. Medium for those on the lighter side of average. Medium Firm for those on the heavier side of average. Medium Firm for anyone on either side of average, who also have pre-existing back pain. The mattress won’t feel or wear as it should due to weak spots that develop in an old foundation. And, doing so will void the warranty of any mattress. If you need a new boxspring/foundation, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height, 5” or 8”, and in your choice of color…black, brown or gray. They’re very strong and assemble easily with no tools needed. They are upholstered foundations, a bit dressy, but reasonably priced. Shown here: Magniflex Foundations https://www.themattressexpert.com/foundations_and_bases.html#/ Also recommended is a waterproof mattress protector, which prevents perspiration from seeping into the upholstery materials. Keeping your mattress clean and dry and will enhance the longevity of your mattress and keep it odor free.
