Hi Pete,
My husband and I recently purchased a Simmons Beautyrest mattress. We've had it for three weeks now, and I'm beginning to develop lower back pains. I'm 5'4", 125 lbs and have never had back issues. The mattress feels fine initially, but as the night wears on, I get more uncomfortable. I don't know whether to try a softer mattress or harder one. Please help! Thanks, Nance HI Nance, It’s not a question of firmness. It’s the memory foam upholstery that’s causing your pain. Memory foam is the only temperature sensitive material being used to upholster mattresses. It softens as it warms from your body’s heat…allowing you to sink into it, which throws off the alignment of your body and spine. THIS is what’s causing your back pain. Simmons and Serta were sold in 2016. Sealy and S&F in 2013. All of these “name brands”, that you could once trust to make a quality mattress have changed their focus to profits instead. Memory foam is what they all chose to achieve this. None of them have made a mattress worth buying since being sold. Much of the mattress industry has done a fine job of promoting memory foam as the best thing since sliced bread…when, in fact, it’s proven to be the worst upholstery material ever invented.
Four excellent reasons to avoid any mattress with memory foam in it. At your height and weight, I recommend the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress in Medium. This mattress uses Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex foam. Latex is and has been the highest quality upholstery material for the last 100+ years, providing long lasting comfort with NONE of the side effects associated with memory foam. The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress comes with a 100 Night Trial. Click on this link to view that mattress and place your order. Keeping your mattress clean and dry and will enhance the longevity of your mattress and keep it odor free. The Sleep & Beyond Organic Cotton Waterproof Mattress Protector is my recommendation…the one we use at home. It sleeps cool and works well.
