Hi Pete,
I’ve been looking for a new mattress. I’m average height and weight. I’m sleeping on a Tempurpedic mattress that’s only a couple of years old. At first, it was great. It really did relieve my back pain. Now, my back pain is back and worse than ever. What mattress would you recommed for a side sleeper? What about S&F? I remember that it used to be pretty good. Thanks, Jason Hi Jason, S&F has been made by Tempurpedic for the past 12+ years… obtained when they bought Sealy, which owned S&F at that time. What’s causing your back pain is the memory foam used by Tempurpedic, that softens from your body’s heat, allowing you to sink. Your spine is no longer being properly aligned. That same memory foam is also used in all Sealy and S&F mattresses. I recommend avoiding any mattress that’s upholstered with memory foam, which will just end up repeating your back pain. My recommendation for you and your wife is the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress in Medium. Shown Here: PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress https://tidd.ly/4ouSPyT The individually pocketed coils maintain the natural alignment of the body and spine. The soft Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex upholstery is both, comfortable and durable, not allowing you to sink, as you have in the memory foam. This is an extremely long lasting mattress that will relieve your back pain on a long term basis. Visa, M/C, Discover, Amex Financing Available Follow us on Facebook & Instagram Hi Pete, What queen mattress would you recommend for my husband and I? I have MS, multiple sclerosis, and wake up every morning with a very stiff, painful back. I have a herniated disc that typically doesn't bother me during the day, but that may be more responsible for the morning back pain than the MS. I weigh 157 and my husband does too. He has no complaints with his back or with the 15-year-old mattress we have now. But I feel it's gotten more uncomfortable over the years and now feels really hard. I'm a side sleeper and my husband likes to sleep on his back. Thanks for your response. Lisa Hi Lisa, A mattress using an individually pocketed coil system will do a much better job of supporting your spine, maintaining the natural alignment of your body, which is the best you can do to relieve disc related back pain. A nice, soft, comfortable sleeping surface will relieve the pain from your MS. Soft Latex foam will do that job better than any other type of upholstery material, as it lasts far longer than anything else. The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress in Medium will provide everything your body needs for support, comfort and longevity… A pocketed coil system and pure, organic latex upholstery. Ask TME: Email: [email protected] Voicemail: 856-874-6894 Hi Pete, I am in my late 50s and have been having mid-shoulder and right hip pain for a couple of years now. I sleep on my side (usually my right side). My husband sleeps on his back and has no problems. We’re replacing our expensive, pillow-top mattress that is now 15 years old. I can see where it sags in the middle on my side. We weigh 140/147 lbs, respectively. A friend warned me to stay away from any mattress with memory foam. She said that when she turns over at night, the foam doesn’t adjust quickly enough to match her body shape and she feels uncomfortable. We can afford a high quality bed but I don't know what to get. What would you suggest? Thanks, Patricia Hi Patricia, Your friend is right about that, but there are several more reasons why a memory foam mattress is a bad choice. Because it doesn’t respond quickly to you changing positions, you tend to wake… disrupting your sleep. Memory foam tends to wear quickly. Memory foam is temperature sensitive. It absorbs your body’s heat and reflects that heat back to you, causing your to sleep hot. Worst of all, it off gasses the toxic chemicals from which it’s made. It’s just a horrible product… the worst upholstery material ever invented. Also, this business of being able to afford an expensive mattress is something I'd suggest keeping to yourself when you go shopping. If you try it once, you'll notice a change in the behavior of most salespeople...kinda like the giddy anticipation of an easy kill from a pack of hyenas. Ok, that might be a slight exaggeration...as far as their behavior is concerned...but not about how they're feeling inside. The upholstery materials are the most expensive part of a mattress. The more padding there is on a mattress, the quicker it will wear out. It's better for you, and your long term comfort, to buy a mattress that provides long lasting support and adding a soft latex topper, which provides excellent comfort that lasts for many years. Then, all you’ll need to replace is the topper when the time comes. You got 15 years from a pillowtop made 15 years ago. You'd be lucky to get 5 from one made today. You're better off avoiding those entirely. You've been out of the market for 15 years. It was about that time when the the industry moguls decided that didn’t want to wait 10 to 15 years for the consumer to be back in the mattress buying market. Since then, mattresses are made to last a much shorter period of time. The thing that they're selling now, is comfort...luxury. The things they're using to make those sales are: memory foam and pillowtops. And making the sale is all they're good for. We carry a number of good choices for mattress....for their durability and support....without memory foam and without pillowtops. Two, in particular leap to mind, from PlushBeds… a leading manufacturer of high quality mattresses. Their Best Buy… Their Luxury Bliss model, using pocketed coils for maintaining proper spinal alignment and pure, organic and hypoallergenic latex upholstery. Their Top of the Line… Their Royal Bliss model, also using a pocketed coil unit for support, but several more exotic upholstery layers in addition to the latex. Given your weights I recommend the choice of Medium for either. Click on each of these links to view and place your order.
