Hi Pete,
Thank you for the information you give to everyone on your blogs. I have a herniated disc like someone you told to get a PlushBeds Mattress. And, also like that other man, I did not want to spend much more than around $1,500 give or take. However, I weigh 266 pounds. I don't know if you would recommend the same mattress for me. Any guidance that you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks, Jake Hi Jake, For someone of your size, I recommend the Natura of Canada Greenspring Mattresses. And while these mattresses are more expensive, the much higher coil count provides support that will hold up longer under that kind of weight. In the long run, it’ll end up costing you less per year. The Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush is their most comfortable mattress, without being too soft. (All of their mattresses are firmer than they sound…firmer than other mattresses with the same comfort designations.) My wife and I have been sleeping on that mattress for more than 10 years. It’s still in great condition, despite the fact that each of us weighs more than 200 lbs. Here’s a link to that line of mattresses: https://www.themattressexpert.com/natura_mattresses.html#/ These mattresses come with White Glove Delivery. If going with the PlushBeds Mattress, I recommend going with the choice of Medium Firm and adding a 2” Soft Latex Topper. Here are links to that mattress and the Latex for Less Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex Toppers: https://www.plushbeds.com/products/12-luxury-bliss-natural-latex-mattress-with-encased-coils?sscid=71k8_pjs8o&utm_source=share-a-sale&utm_campaign=4342051&variant=31705061687394 https://www.latexforless.com/products/latex-topper?variant=134346899481&sscid=71k8_rmsu0&utm_source=share-a-sale&utm_campaign=4342051 If you need a new foundation, as well, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height and color. They assemble easily and with no tools needed. Hi Pete,
I’m reluctant to purchase a mattress with memory foam in it. I had to throw out a memory foam topper, as I could not live with chemical off-gassing after one month. It also made my husband very hot. We currently have an old Simmons Beautyrest mattress that needs replacing. Just want a really comfy firm but soft top bed without rapid indentation...Suggestions welcome, please!!! Thanks, Elsa Hi Elsa, All of the name brands have been sold and all are using the same crappy memory foam that you already know to avoid. Best bet? The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress. It uses the same type of coil system that’s in your Beautyrest, so you’ll experience the same support that your body is used to. The upholstery is Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex. No Off Gassing. No Sleeping Hot. It provides surface comfort that lasts for many years. This mattress comes with a 100 Night Trial Period. Click on this link to view that mattress. Use the same link to place your order. Hybrid Latex Mattress - The Luxury Bliss plushbeds.com If you need a new foundation, as well, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height and color. We have a Sealy Mattress that’s less than five years old. We have a platform - no box spring. The mattress is in terrible shape, like sleeping on peeks and valley's. My wife and I are now suffering lower back pain every morning after a night on this mattress. I keep reading about Shiffman but the price point is crazy. We don't mind paying for quality. I just want the correct fit. We like a firmer mattress. Thanks, Matt Hi Matt, There’s no need to spend a lot of money to get a good night’s sleep. Sealy is now owned by Tempurpedic. It’s all that crappy memory foam they use that’s causing your problem. The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress uses Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex upholstery, which has been the longest lasting material for the last 100 years…and very comfy. The individually pocketed coils provide contouring support that is designed to maintain the natural alignment of your body and spine, THIS, is what will relieve your back pain. Together with the latex upholstery, you’ll have a mattress that will get you a good night’s sleep for many years to come. And, the price is much lower than you’d expect. And, this mattress comes with a 100 Night Trial Period. Order that in Medium Firm for the firmer feel that you prefer. Click on this link to view that mattress. You can place your order through the same link. What’s the best mattress for the money? I’ve been shopping at stores, following the advice of salespeople. That hasn’t worked out so well. Over the last 5 years, I’ve purchased 5 different mattresses. Some, I’ve been able to return. Some, I got stuck with. I can’t afford to lose anymore money on bad mattresses. I’ve just been reading some of your blog posts and now realize what I’ve been doing wrong. I’ve been focusing on the old name brands that I’ve always been familiar with, not knowing that they’ve all been sold to companies that no longer make a quality mattress. I now know to stay away from memory foam. I wish I knew that 5 years ago, when I traded in my old Sealy Posturepedic for another that turned out to be junk. A recommendation from you would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul Hi Paul, I’m sorry that you had to learn all this the hard way. Let me direct your attention to the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress. Shown here: Hybrid Latex Mattress - The Luxury Bliss plushbeds.com The heavy gauge, tempered steel, individually pocketed coils are designed to provide firm, contouring support that maintains the natural alignment of the body and spine, which is the best you can do to relieve back pain. The Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex upholstery gives you a comfortable sleeping surface that is designed to relieve pressure point pain. The feel of latex is unique, providing the feeling that you’re floating. What’s more, latex has been the longest lasting upholstery for the last 100 years. This mattress is extremely well made and reasonably priced. It comes in a choice of firmness. Besides personal choice, the choice of Medium is recommended for light to average weight people and the Medium Firm is recommended for above average weight people. Also, It comes with a 100 Night Trial Period, so you can’t go wrong. If you need a new foundation, as well, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height and color. I am having a difficult, frustrating time finding a new mattress. I have horrible neck and back pain after sleeping in my boyfriend’s cheap, very old mattress for the past 2 years. I have read 100s of reviews on Serta, Simmons, memory foam, latex, etc. Considering my budget, memory foam is out of the question. But I am worried that innerspring mattresses will sag in the long run. I have looked at the Simmons Beautyrest, but I have concerns after reading all the bad reviews, so I’ve decided against it. I was also looking at a Sealy Posturepedic, but the reviews are just as bad. Can you please give me your suggestions on a popular mattress that is good for pain relief and costs $1000 - $1500? I am 5'6, 125lbs and my boyfriend is 5'11, 175lbs. Thank you so much for your expertise. It is a relief to find someone who cares and knows what they are talking about! Best, Jessica Hi Jessica, Sagging over time is the nature of the beast. The quality of the components is what determines how long that will take to happen. In the long run, there’s no avoiding it. However, you have an advantage. Your sizes mitigate in your favor. Sagging takes longer under lighter body weight than under heavier body weight. In terms of back pain relief, there’s nothing better than an individually pocketed coil system. The independent suspension, contouring support that it provides, maintains the natural alignment of the body and spine…giving where you’re heaviest and filling in where you’re lighter. In terms of sagging, pure latex upholstery is far more resilient than any other type of upholstery materials. Conversely, memory foam is the least resilient. The very best that you can do with the money you have to spend is: The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress. Individually Pocketed Coils & Pure, Organic & Hypoallergenic Latex. Excellent support, comfort and longevity. This mattress comes with a 100 Night Trial Period. Click on this link to view that mattress, and place your order. I have a L5-S1 Herniated Disc and Sciatica in my left leg. I am a back and a side sleeper. What important things do I need to be looking for in a mattress? What kind of king or queen mattress would you recommend? Thank you, Larry Hi Larry, The components in a mattress to consider, that will relieve your sciatica and do so for many years, are an individually pocketed coil and latex upholstery. That type of coil system provides firm, contouring push back support that will maintain the natural alignment of the body and spine. The upholstery that is the most resilient, is Pure, Organic & Hypoallergenic Latex…the best type of upholstery material for the last 100 years. The mattress I’m recommending has all this. The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress in Medium Firm. This mattress comes with a 100 Night Trial Period. Visa, M/C, Discover, Amex Follow us on Facebook Website: https://themattressexpert.com/ Email: [email protected] Voicemail: 856-874-6894 Hi Pete,I have an advanced case of fibromyalgia.
I’m average size and sleep alone. I’ve asked sales people to show me soft mattresses. I can’t find a soft mattress that stays soft for very long. Before you know it, my fibromyalgia pain flares up and my back starts to hurt. There must be a solution and you seem to have an answer for everything. So, what’s your recommendation? Thanks, Lisa Hi Lisa, Let’s go over some of the basics. What we all want is the support and comfort that gives us a good night’s sleep. Our purses require a purchase that provides longevity. Your body has a duality to it…the inside and the outside, to put it simply. The inside, your skeletal system, requires some degree of firm support. To which degree, depends on how much you weigh. A mattress is a pressure sensitive product. The softer it is, the shorter the life span. Complicating the situation is the abundant use of memory foam. Memory foam is not only pressure sensitive, it’s also temperature sensitive. As it warms from the body heat you give off, it softens. Memory foam is not very resistant, so it takes only a short time before you’re sinking too far into it. Unfortunately, most brands and all of the name brands are using memory foam to upholster their mattresses. A successful mattress purchase starts with avoiding any mattress upholstered with memory foam. You can’t just buy a soft mattress. Your back requires something firmer…not hard, but firm. You then soften the surface of that mattress with something softer. As the years go by, you replace that softer topper without having to buy a new mattress. This procedure is what makes sense…both for addressing your ailments and for preserving your financial health. My recommendation will come is 2 parts for most people. For you, because your fibromyalgia is advanced, a 3rd part may be necessary. First: The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress in Medium. The individually pocketed coils provide firm but contouring support, which is designed to maintain the natural alignment of your body and spine, while also reducing pressure on the body at the surface. Here’s the link to that mattress: https://www.plushbeds.com/products/12-luxury-bliss-natural-latex-mattress-with-encased-coils?variant=31705061490786&sscid=71k8_pjs8o&utm_source=share-a-sale&utm_campaign=4342051 Second: A Latex for Less 3” Soft Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex Mattress Topper. Pure Latex provides the feeling that you’re floating. What’s more, this quality of latex lasts for many years. Here’s a link to those toppers: https://www.latexforless.com/products/latex-topper?variant=134346899481&sscid=71k8_rmsu0&utm_source=share-a-sale&utm_campaign=4342051 Third: For those who suffer with an advanced case of fibromyalgia, the additional PlushBeds Alternative Down Mattress Topper. This topper provides extraordinary surface softness. It’s not as long lasting as latex, but much longer lasting than memory foam. I recommend waiting until you have the first two in place before deciding if this is necessary. Here’s a link to that topper: https://www.plushbeds.com/products/alternative-down-bed-topper?sscid=71k8_rmssu&utm_source=share-a-sale&utm_campaign=4342051&variant=32001051787362 Also recommended is a waterproof mattress protector, which prevents perspiration from seeping into the upholstery materials. Keeping your mattress clean and dry will enhance longevity. The Sleep & Beyond Organic Cotton Waterproof Mattress Protector is my recommendation…the one we use at home. It sleeps cool and works well.
