I have an old king mattress and wake up everyday sore and stiff. I need a new mattress and would love your advice. I’m a side and back sleeper and am on the heavier side with some lower back issues (a few herniated discs). Any guidance would be most welcome. My wife and I are replacing a Stearns and Foster Hampton Plush Mattress. We've had it a very long time. We went to a local store and asked to see the current replacement from S&F. I’ve been following your blog for years, now. It’s very interesting. I’ve read, quite often, about your opposition to memory foam. A couple of months ago, I went to a local mattress store. I told the salesman about you and what you have to say about memory foam. He told me that you, either, don’t know what you’re talking about or just trying to sell what you have. He then went into great detail about why memory foam is the latest, greatest mattress padding on the market. He was rather convincing. My wife insisted that we buy it. Long story even longer, I chose to believe him over you. And, I wanted to make my wife happy. Now, only a couple of months later, I have learned “the hard way”, that you’d been right all along. I am now getting ready to fight with him for a refund, that he has told me is not available. It's a Stearns and Foster Plush King Mattress. It’s now noticeably less comfortable. I need a mattress that can hold a 200 lb. woman with fibromyalgia. But, it also needs to be long lasting to replace a 16 year old pillow top double sided Stearns & Foster mattress. What you have, is among the very best that Simmons ever made. A Cadillac among mattresses… pun intended. There’s only one mattress, that I know of, that will satisfy your sense of quality. It happens to be the same mattress that my wife and I have at home. Ours is 11 years old and still in like new condition, with each of us weighing more than 200 lbs. Yours has 1000 coils (queen size coil count) Ours has 1020. What’s more, the steel is tempered. Simmons never used tempered steel. Instead, they pre-compressed their coils. (9” coil in a 7” pocket). The upholstery in yours is mostly chemical based polyurethane and a little latex. Ours is mostly latex with a little plant based polyurethane. The mattress to which I’m referring is the Natura Greenspring Ultra Plush. (Not as soft as it sounds, due to the quality and resiliency of the components) Unlike most of today’s mattresses, there’s no memory foam in ours. There’s none in yours, either… which accounts for the longevity. And, unlike most of today’s mattresses, it takes a while to arrive (several weeks) This mattress comes with white glove delivery… in a box the size of the mattress, as opposed to being shrink wrapped, rolled and boxed for ups delivery. If you have a platform bed, then all you’ll need is the mattress. If you have a 30 year old boxspring, that will need to be replaced. We need to replace our really old queen mattress and box springs, but we’re dealing with a couple of issues: 1) We are around 200 lb. people, around the same height.
