A Mattress for a 500 Lb. Man

Hello Pete,
I need a new mattress. I'm a big man, weighing 500 lbs.
I have a Stearns and Foster, one sided mattress.
I cannot sleep on it for more than a few hours at a time.
The frame is broken and the boxspring creaks.
I wake up every day with back pain, and have been for years.
I cannot go on like this. Can you help?

Natura Greenspring to Replace a Very Old Stearns and Foster Mattress

Hi Pete:
After much research, I've decided the Natura Greenspring Mattress.
We're coming from a very old "luxury firm" Stearns & Foster, and it sounds like this is a best option to replace this discontinued mattress.

I'm really struggling as to which model and what type of latex topper to get. I've never had a topper before, but I've read lots of good things about them. I'm wondering about the brands, which thickness, and even which comfort level?
I had no idea toppers had so many options.

I'm 6' around 285, wife is 190 and 5'9" -- we're in our mid-40s.
Can you make some specific recommendations?

Given your size, I recommend going with the Natura Greenspring Luxury Firm Mattress and foundation, with a soft latex topper.
The firmer model is better for supporting a man of your size long term. The soft latex topper will provide the surface comfort.
Latex is extremely resistant, absorbing much of your body weight, which will greatly extend the life of any mattress.

You have to be careful when shopping for a latex topper.
The quality can vary greatly.
Over the past several years, latex made in China has become available and popular due to the cheap prices.
The prices are low because the Chinese use clay as a filler when they make the latex foam.
Clay is a natural material, so it’s sold as all natural latex…not bothering to mention the clay.
It does not wear well.
