Hi Pete, My boyfriend and I purchased a Stearns and Foster pillowtop mattress about 3 weeks ago. The bed is at my house and he generally only stays over on weekends. Im heavier, about 275 pounds. The side of the mattress that I sleep on already feels much, much squishier than the side that doesnt get slept on as often, the other side still feels nice and firm. I want to exchange it for a non-pillowtop mattress. But, I need some help as to what to choose. Thanks, Mellissa Hi Mellissa, S&F was purchased by Tempurpedic back in 2013. The pillowtop part is only part of the problem you’re experiencing. The memory foam upholstery is another reason why your side is sinking in. Even if you exchange it for another S&F mattress without a pillowtop, you’ll be back in the same situation within months. If the store you’re dealing with has mattresses that don’t have any memory foam in them, those would be the ones to consider. Memory foam is purposefully designed to do precisely what your mattress is doing. I hope this helps you. It’s hard to find mattresses without memory foam at most retail mattress stores. Good luck, Pete - TME ****** Hi Pete, My store doesn’t have any mattresses without memory foam. All of their mattresses are name brands. When did they all change? Anyway, they’re willing to take this mattress back and refund my money, minus a 10% handling fee. I hate to lose that money, but don’t want to waste the other 90%. So, now if in the market for another mattress WITHOUT memory foam. What would you recommend for a gal my size that’s comfortable and long lasting? Thanks again, Mellisa Hi Mellissa, We specialize in mattresses without memory foam. What’s more, all of our mattresses are upholstered with latex. Latex is and has been the best upholstery material used in mattresses for the past 100+ years. Nothing new… just the highest quality available. Moreover, we carry a line of mattresses that are specifically designed to provide support and for larger people over a long period of time… many years. Natura of Canada Greenspring is that line of mattresses. There are 4 choices of comfort, one sided models and a plush 2 sided mattress. Their firmer models are recommended for very heavy people. We’ve had several customers who topped 500 lbs. For you, I’d recommend either the Ultra Plush one sided, or the Plush 2 sided mattress. These mattresses have an extremely high coil count that’s designed to maintain the natural alignment of the body and spine. The Natural and Hypoallergenic Talalay Latex upholstery is equally comfortable and durable. Here’s a link to that line of mattresses. Hi Pete, Over the last couple of years, my wife and I have been through a few different mattresses. This latest one is six months old and already starting to develop noticeable body impressions. I remember when mattresses lasted a good 10 to 20 years. Are those days gone? What’s the mattress would you recommend that’s both, comfortable and long lasting? Thanks, William Hi William, Those days are gone if you’re still placing your trust in name brands. Those brands that you could once trust for quality have all been sold. The component those and many others use that are causing mattresses to need frequent replacing is memory foam. However there are many brands that don’t use memory foam. The longest lasting upholstery material is latex, which has been so for the last 100+ years. However, you have to be careful here, as well. Latex processed in China has fillers that dramatically shorten the lifespan. Of all the brands, the Natura of Canada Greenspring mattresses are the longest lasting. My wife and I have been sleeping on their ultra plush model for the past 11 years. And despite the fact that we aren’t lightweights, it’s still in like new condition. THIS would be my #1 recommendation for support, comfort and longevity. Here’s the link to that mattress: Natura Greenspring Ultra Plush Mattress https://cc-mattress-llc.square.site/product/natura-greenspring-liberta-ultra-plush/92?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true This mattress takes about 6 weeks to arrive, but it’s well worth the wait.

I’m seeing a lot of mixed reviews about these brands. Do you recommend any of these? If not, what’s the best value mattress? Thanks, Mark Hi Mark, All of these, so called, name brands that could once be trusted to make a quality product, have been sold. An investment group bought Simmons & Serta in 2016. They are now one company. Tempur-Pedic bought Sealy and Stearns & Foster in 2013. They are now known as Tempur-Sealy. What used to be different companies that competed with each other to make the best mattress, have digressed into 2 companies looking to see who can make the most money. They’ve achieved their record profits by using memory foam made in China, which is purposefully designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing. The resiliency of memory foam is very poor and it’s made of 61 different petrochemical based chemicals… some of which are highly toxic and carcinogenic. That horrible smell is the off gassing of these dangerous chemicals. Even after memory foam wears to the point where you are no longer comfortable, it returns to its original shape when you get out of bed, making it highly unlikely for you to prevail in a warranty claim. It’s only a matter of time before this product is made illegal. Until then, our American consumers should reject any mattress made with it. The short answer to your question is, “No. They’re a horrible value”. There are a number of brands, with which you are less familiar, that provide an excellent value for your money, due to the high quality of their components. TME, “The Mattress Expert” specializes in these high quality brands. With any upholstered product being pressure sensitive, our recommendations are largely based on body weight. The best values are as follows: For people who’s weight ranges from light to a little heavier than average: PlushBeds… Double Certified Organic Mattresses and Toppers https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1233558&u=4342051&m=62252&urllink=&afftrack= For people who’s weight ranges from heavy to grossly overweight: Natura of Canada Greenspring Mattresses https://www.themattressexpert.com/natura_mattresses.html#/ Delivery is always free.

I am helping a friend with two herniated discs in the thoracic region find the best mattress to help with his back pain. The herniated discs are at T5-6 and T8-9. He is 5'6' and approximately 160 lbs (give or take). He has been looking into buying a Tempurpedic mattress What type of mattress would you recommend? A soft or hard mattress? Are there any brands that are better than other? Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time, Liz Hi Liz, An all foam mattress, and memory foam in particular, will only make his back problems worse. He's being taken in by the hype surrounding that kind of mattress...and none of it is true, beyond a year or two. A mattress with a pre-compressed, individually pocketed coil, will provide contouring "UPWARD" support for his herniated discs. (A foam mattress provides no upward support). The best of what we carry, is the Natura of Canada Greenspring. These mattresses provide the highest coil count....strong coils that are double tempered...and upholstered with natural latex. Latex is and has been thee best upholstery material for the last 100 years. During its 27 year history, TempurPedic memory foam has proven to be the worst...a toxic chemical soup that is specifically designed to need frequent replacement. My wife and I have the Natura Greenspring ultra plush mattresses at home. It’s 11 years old and still in like new condition. I have lots of back problems, including herniated disc, and yet I sleep and wake without back pain...thanks to the mattress. Of their 4 models, the Ultra Plush is the most comfortable. All 4 models are firmer than they sound due to the extremely high coil count and high density of the upholstery materials. (No Memory Foam, No Off Gassing, No Sleeping Hot). These are the mattresses we recommend for use by heavy people for long term use. With a mattress being a pressure sensitive product, even if you’re lighter in weight, you can’t go wrong. They’ll just last that much longer. My wife and I, each weighing more than 200 lbs., have been sleeping on the ultra plush model for 11 years, and it’s still in great condition. Imagine how long these mattresses last under average body weight! After much research, I've decided the Natura Greenspring Mattress. We're coming from a very old "luxury firm" Stearns & Foster, and it sounds like this is a best option to replace this discontinued mattress. I'm really struggling as to which model and what type of latex topper to get. I've never had a topper before, but I've read lots of good things about them. I'm wondering about the brands, which thickness, and even which comfort level? I had no idea toppers had so many options. I'm 6' around 285, wife is 190 and 5'9" -- we're in our mid-40s. Can you make some specific recommendations? Thanks and look forward to hearing from you, Brandon Hi Brandon, Given your size, I recommend going with the Natura Greenspring Luxury Firm Mattress and foundation, with a soft latex topper. The firmer model is better for supporting a man of your size long term. The soft latex topper will provide the surface comfort. Latex is extremely resistant, absorbing much of your body weight, which will greatly extend the life of any mattress. High quality latex toppers are one of the few items that actually pays for itself by lengthening the longevity of the mattress. Latex for Less has the best prices on the highest quality latex toppers available anywhere… Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic. 2” or 3” Soft is recommended. Opt for the organic cotton cover, as well. Both links, shown here: Natura Greenspring Luxury Firm Mattress https://cc-mattress-llc.square.site/product/natura-greenspring-liberta-luxury-firm/79?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true Latex for Less Pure, Organic Latex Mattress Toppers https://www.latexforless.com/products/latex-topper?variant=134346899481&sscid=71k8_rmsu0&utm_source=share-a-sale&utm_campaign=4342051 You have to be careful when shopping for a latex topper. The quality can vary greatly. Over the past several years, latex made in China has become available and popular due to the cheap prices. The prices are low because the Chinese use clay as a filler when they make the latex foam. Clay is a natural material, so it’s sold as all natural latex…not bothering to mention the clay. It does not wear well. What’s the strongest mattress for heavy people? My husband and I weigh more than 300 lbs., each. Every mattress we’ve purchased has lasted only a short time. We need firm support and comfort, but can’t seem to find the right mattress. Can you help us? Thanks, Angela Hi Angela, We carry a line of mattresses that’s specifically designed to hold heavy people, and lasting for many years. It’s what my wife and I sleep on at home. Natura Greenspring. We are heavy people also, not as heavy as you. We have their ultra plush model and it’s now 11 years old and still in like new condition. I am looking for a mattress, but I’m a bit overwhelmed. I would like a firm mattress that will support my weight, over 300 lbs. I have low back problems, causing severe pain. It looks like a firm mattress with a soft latex mattress topper would be the best choice, but I am not sure which bed would be best. I want a mattress that will last. I have been sleeping in a recliner since I hurt my back. The last time I tried to sleep in a bed, I only made it two hours before my back ached so bad I had to get up & move to a chair. I miss stretching out in a bed! Help!! Please! Thanks, Monica Hi Monica, Your assessment is correct. Adding a soft latex topper to a firm mattress does more than provide surface comfort. It absorbs much of your weight, which adds years of life to a mattress, giving you the longevity you want. The strongest are the Natura Greenspring Mattresses. My wife and I have their ultra plush model. It’s more than 10 years old and still in great condition, with each of us weighing more than 200 lbs. I’m in the market for a new mattress. My current mattress is a Simmons Beautyrest Advantage. I know they’ve been discontinued for quite some time. On the tag it says the model is M23011.60.7405. I know it’s a shot in the dark but would you know if they carry something similar? I don’t even know where to begin looking!! Thank you for any help you can provide! Adam Hi Adam, Simmons was sold in 2016 to an investment group that also bought Serta. The upholstery material was changed to a cheap memory foam that is designed to cause mattresses to need more frequent replacing. Trading off the name that had been known for quality, they’re dependent on prior customers who assume that the quality is still there. Their quality isn’t even close to what it had been. Simmons had been using polyurethane, latex…and in their later years, prior to being sold, a very high grade of memory foam. Simmons had always been famous for their individually pocketed coil system, which provides an independent suspension type of support that maintains the natural alignment of the body and spine. THIS, more than anything else is what makes your Beautyrest so comfortable. The key to your next successful purchase is in finding a mattress that has that same type of coil system with no memory foam in it. Having been in this business for more than a half century, I recommend only non-memory foam mattresses. I have 3 mattresses to offer you that have an individually pocketed coil system and are upholstered with latex foam. Latex is and has been the best upholstery material for more than a century. Each of the mattresses I’ll be recommending include different services. Most Popular…PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress. Pocketed coils and pure, organic latex…includes a 100 Night Trial. Available in Medium or Medium Firm. UPS front door delivery. My wife and I are large people, over 200 lbs each. This is the mattress we recommend for that weight range. As you’ll see from the link, there are 3 other choices of comfort. These firmer models are recommended even heavier weight people. These mattresses also come with white glove delivery, but removal of your old mattress is NOT included. That line of mattresses, shown here: Natura Greenspring Mattresses https://www.themattressexpert.com/natura_mattresses.html#/ You never want to put a new mattress on an old foundation. My husband weighs 280 lbs. We have an all latex mattress. It’s held up well, considering how big he is, but he now has two protruding disc and his back is hurting. Any suggestions? What is the difference between king a california king? Thanks, Roxie Hi Roxie, Easy question first: King size: 78” wide x 80” long Cal King size: 72” wide x 84” long King is better for extra elbow room. It can be rotated 1/4 turn, which promotes more even wear…equaling greater longevity. Cal King is better for taller people. Your husband’s back pain… Your husband is lacking the proper support for his spine. What he needs is a pocketed coil mattress with latex upholstery. The individually pocketed coils provide the pushback support his damaged spine requires in order to maintain proper alignment. No all foam mattress will do that. Latex is, by far, superior to memory foam…in terms of durability, which is a major advantage when it comes to cushioning heavier people. For larger individuals we recommend the Natura Greenspring Mattresses. There are 4 choices of comfort. My wife and I have been sleeping on their Ultra Plush model for more than a decade. It’s still in great condition…with each of us weighing than 200 + lbs. What’s more, I have a very bad back…Herniated and Bulging Discs, along with Degenerative Disc Disease. Yet, I have slept and awakened with No Back Pain all this time. These mattresses have the highest coil count available, and are upholstered with all natural materials, including Natural Latex. No Off Gassing. Also included is White Glove Delivery. Delivery includes setup in your bedroom and removal of all packaging materials.
