We’re replacing a Simmons Beautyrest Adamsville Mattress, that we purchased from you about 14 yrs. ago. It has served us well. You recommended this mattress to us because it was inexpensive, but well made, as we didn’t have a lot of money to spend. Well, our financial situation hasn’t changed much. We are moving from a queen size bed to a king. My wife likes to sleep right next to me. With our weights, it is like a SINK HOLE in the middle of our bed. The overall quality of mattresses, across the board, has reduced dramatically in the last 10-15 years. At average weight, the most you can expect is 5 years from most of them. You have multiple issues that cannot be addressed with a single mattress. A firm, supportive mattress and a soft latex topper is what's called for here. I have had my new simmons beautyrest king hospitality mattress just over a month on the two twin xl foundations it came with, and just noticed after lifting it to assemble a metal frame to put it on that there is a 1-1.5 inch tear on the bottom ( non sleep surface). There was no damage inside or loss of material or moisture/ dirt. We just patched it with aluminum ductwork tape ( not regular duct tape) , and my husband is convinced this should be 100% fine long term. I let the Hospitality beautyrest company know that it most likely arrived this way but I only viewed the sleep surface because it was delivered right on the foundations immediately. They said a tear may void the warranty and to take photos and request a new one, but it’s not guaranteed. Rather than go to that trouble we really want to just keep it, but do you think the mattress will hold up with the aluminum patch long term? Or, is it worth the trouble of trying to replace it? So far it feels great and doesn’t affect the way the mattress feels at all, but I have never had to patch a mattress, and it’s considered a high end, expensive one that is expected to last 10-15 years. I purchased them with the understanding that they will last at least 5 years. I think I would be happy with half the original plan of 10 plus years since this one is a pillow top model. I read some social media comments about them before purchasing. They are apparently extremely comfortable for around 5 years or so for pillow top models, and 7 years for non pillow tops. I know they do not at all make them as durable as they used to. I slept on my twin Serta innerspring bed for over 30 years comfortably. Thank you Marie Hi Marie, Simmons and Serta were sold to an investment group in 2016. This is when quality and the longevity that goes with it, began to suffer. Memory foam is temperature sensitive, which means it gets softer as it warms. Heavier people tend to give off more body heat than slender people. The years you’ll get will depend, mostly, on body weight. Adding a non-memory foam topper, will mitigate all of this, by creating a barrier between you and the memory foam. Your mattress will remain more like new, longer, if you use a topper. Pure organic and hypoallergenic latex has always been the best… longest lasting for more than 100 years. Today, there is also cheap latex from china that doesn’t last very long… months instead of years… So you need to be careful. I have a 20 year old Simmons Beautyrest Pillowtop Mattress that needs replacing. We are looking for a new mattress. It will be for occasional use. We meet family at their vacation home several times per year. They have a room for us but we provide the furniture as a thank you. In our house we have a Natura Greenspring Ultra Plush with a 2" latex topper that we purchased from you several years ago. We love it and it's still in great shape, however the price now higher than what we paid for ours. So I was wondering what suggestions you might have. We would like something similar to our Greenspring. I like slightly firm but my wife wouldn't mind something a little softer.
