Hi Pete! I just came across your blog as I've been debating over mattresses for several weeks! You seem to know your stuff, so here's my question: I just purchased a Queen Tempurpedic and think I went a little too firm, since my last bed was much too soft. I've been in several different kinds of accidents and have pain in my neck, upper and lower back. I need a firm mattress but I like a soft plush feel on top. This Tempurpedic feels like a brick! The only way I'm sleeping now is because I bought a thick feather/down topper on it to give me some relief-but the feathers poke me even though it says it's 100% down. So, I’m sending everything back and starting over. What beds would you most recommend? Any others I may not have checked out yet? I sleep mostly on my side and some on my back. I have had trouble with my arms falling asleep, and certainly usually wake up with stiffness in my neck, shoulders and low back with mattresses in the past. Although I am concerned about the back and hip issues that I have, it is a bed that will only be slept in for 2-3 months a year, and not always by us. I had many aunts and cousins with that name. No question is too big or too small. Here are the sizes, in inches: Twin, (aka, single)...38" x 75" Twin-XL. (half of a king size)...38" x 80" Full, (aka, double)...54" x 75" Queen...60" x 80" Standard, (Eastern) King...76" x 80" California King...72" x 84" “Shrinkage” from those sizes is common, especially in the length with is often 1/2” to 1” short. Also, the widths may vary by as much as an inch. This is commonly referred to as the “cut and sewn” size. High end mattresses tend to measure the stated size. I’m in the market for a new replacement mattress. My current mattress is a Simmons Beautyrest Advantage. I know they’ve been discontinued for quite some time. On the tag it says the model is M23011.60.7405. I know it’s a shot in the dark but would you know if they carry something similar? I don’t even know where to begin looking!!
