Hi Pete, Are Sealy, Simmons and Serta Mattresses a good value? I’m seeing a lot of mixed reviews about these brands. Do you recommend any of these? If not, what’s the best value mattress? Thanks, Mark Hi Mark, All of these, so called, name brands that could once be trusted to make a quality product, have been sold. An investment group bought Simmons & Serta in 2016. They are now one company. Tempur-Pedic bought Sealy and Stearns & Foster in 2013. They are now known as Tempur-Sealy. What used to be different companies that competed with each other to make the best mattress, have digressed into 2 companies looking to see who can make the most money. They’ve achieved their record profits by using memory foam made in China, which is purposefully designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing. The resiliency of memory foam is very poor and it’s made of 61 different petrochemical based chemicals… some of which are highly toxic and carcinogenic. That horrible smell is the off gassing of these dangerous chemicals. Even after memory foam wears to the point where you are no longer comfortable, it returns to its original shape when you get out of bed, making it highly unlikely for you to prevail in a warranty claim. It’s only a matter of time before this product is made illegal. Until then, our American consumers should reject any mattress made with it. The short answer to your question is, “No. They’re a horrible value”. There are a number of brands, with which you are less familiar, that provide an excellent value for your money, due to the high quality of their components. TME, “The Mattress Expert” specializes in these high quality brands. With any upholstered product being pressure sensitive, our recommendations are largely based on body weight.
