My husband is 6'2', 210 lbs. I'm 5'5', 150 lbs. He needs a firmer mattress than I do, and we've spent thousands of dollars and lots of sleepless nights in the last 10 years, buying mattress after mattress that we can't use. We have a 5 year old Sealy (Plush Pillowtop) mattress that has always been too hot, and is now causing pain in the lower back. The mattress still looks to be in good condition, with no obvious indentations to look at it. But it feels like I’m sinking into it. Options seem to be; try a latex topper, or return mattress to Sealy for refurbishment, or replace it. Your advice would be appreciated. I have been looking at your blog for the past month or so. Both my husband and I weigh about 220 pounds and have been through multiple mattresses in the past ten years. We did purchase a firm latex bed a few years ago and it was very hard. We ended up exchanging it for a pillowtop plush latex, which ended up with ruts after about a year and a half. If only we had known to put a latex topper on the firm bed! Right now we are sleeping on an inexpensive memory foam bed that was comfortable for me for about two months. I don't sleep well on it.
