I think I have that same situation, where all I need is a mattress topper.
My mattress is old, but still in good condition. My back doesn’t hurt and I sleep well when I can find a position that relieves my hip pain, which is becoming increasingly more difficult.
I believe that a latex topper will solve my problem. The question is, “which one?”.
I’m a 5’6”, 160 lb. female. My husband is 5’10”, 180 lbs.

I suffer with sciatica and my back pain is almost constant.
I went to buy a new mattress, hoping that would help.
I told the salesman about my sciatica and he recommended a Tempur-Pedic memory foam mattress, which I bought.
I’ve had this mattress for 2 weeks now. At first, my sciatica was a little better, which gave me hope. But my pain has gotten worse to the point where the pain is worse than ever.

I’m happy to have found your blog.
I’ve purchased and returned 3 mattresses this year.
All promised to relieve my persistent, chronic back pain.
All 3 made it worse within a month.
