A Mattress for my Daughter, Herniated Disk Lower Back Pain

​Hi Pete,
I need a mattress for my daughter.
Age: 21 years old
Height: 5'6" 
Weight: 130 lbs
Sleeps alone - no spouse or partner right now but this bed would stay in our home if she got married.
Stomach sleeper and sometimes side sleeper
She wants a soft top bed she doesn't like hard beds.  
She doesn't like the beds we have since they are hard.
The current bed she has is 10 years old - Simmons full plush
I tried sleeping in her bed recently and the whole center is caved in.  
I fell into the middle part of the bed and woke up with the worst back pain.
My daughter currently has a herniated disk in the lowest part of her back.  
The doctor told us to get her a new bed. 
She can have a pillow top for softness but have more support in the bed.

Hi Val,
The trick is to get her what she wants without sacrificing what she needs.
A herniated disc at any age needs to be supported properly.
At her age, it’s even more imperative so that it doesn’t worsen with all of the years ahead of her. That pain only gets worse with age if ignored.

A Simmons Beautyrest is unique in that the choice between firm and plush is achieved by changing the gauge of wire used to make the coils.
Every other brand uses the same gauge wire and changes the comfort level of the upholstery layers.
The coils in her mattress, the wire used to make the coils is a very thin gauge and the steel used is not tempered, which accounts for the sagging and lack of support.

Her back requires the same type of coil system, individually pocketed coils, as used in her Beautyrest, but stronger, firmer, and made of tempered steel for long lasting support.

Pillow top mattress sound good in theory, but the pillow top part is the first thing to wear, and it wears quickly. This will leave her dissatisfied within a year’s time.
