A Good Mattress for Relieving Fibromyalgia Pain

​Hi Pete,
I want to find a good mattress for relieving fibromyalgia pain.
I bought a Sleep Number after the salesperson told me it would be good for relieving my fibromyalgia pain. Was I misled! What a joke that was!
WORST BED EVER!!!!


After reading some of your blog posts, I believe you can help me.

Unusual name! I have a cousin with that name. Everyone calls her Cubby.


The problem with your choice in mattress is twofold.
The memory foam is a temperature sensitive material that softens as it warms from your body heat, allowing you to sink into a still bag of air.


The right bed for you starts with an individually pocketed coil system for contouring support that maintains the natural alignment of the body and spine, while also relieving pressure points at the hip and shoulder.


(Keep in mind that fibromyalgia is a surface condition. You can ignore the fact that the inside of your body requires some degree of firm support.
To ignore that for the sake of the softness needed for your fibromyalgia will result in back pain…just making matters worse.)

While both of the mattresses are comfortable, dealing with fibromyalgia can take the question of comfort to a whole other level.
Add a soft mattress topper will, more than likely, be necessary.
Soft Latex will provide long lasting additional comfort.

Fibromyalgia tends to be a progressive condition.
If your condition worsens or is already far advanced, then a latex topper may not be enough. Under these conditions, you’ll want to include the PlushBeds Alternative Down Mattress Topper.

You never want to put a new mattress on an old foundation.
Doing so will void the warranty of any mattress.
If you need a new boxspring/foundation, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height and color.

They are upholstered foundations, a bit dressy, but reasonably priced.

Also recommended is a waterproof mattress protector, which prevents perspiration from seeping into the upholstery materials.
Keeping your mattress clean and dry and odor free will enhance longevity.
